Crosman 2289G

650-680 fps should be achievable with a steel breech, valve and minor piston mods. You will have to pump it 20+ times though.

Only thing with pumps is you'll be getting a good workout between shots.............Harold

Go ahead! Or if you hate the idea of pumping just get a 2250, but it won't be quite as consistent.

I cut my teeth on my 2289g that I got when I was 14, tought myself to shoot on it, and it's the reason I still manage to shoot marksman when I qualify on my C7.

No they don't make a pal rated one(not in Canada). If you really want a pal rated pumper,i'd go with a Benjamin Sheridan 392.In .22=685fps,in .177=800fps.The cost is around $260.00 new.It will cost you about the same amount of money to build up your 2289 and won't hold the value like the Benji will.I have built and sold two 2289's and have shot the Benji's.Go for a Benji, you'll be glad you did.

Benjamins are miserable to scope.Better off with a German/English springer RWS 34 or used UK Webley...........Wiehrauch if $ is no object Specialty Shooting Sports in BC is cheapest........Harold

I thought he was asking about pump airguns, but i tend to agree.Save your money and buy a quality springer if you want something that is worth buying. If you want to go magnum,go all the way and go PCP.The Discovery has a good following, but i haven't owned one.I do how ever own two Airforce Condors:sniper:,slammin' power to spare!:50cal:!It depends on how you want to go.Spend to winter saving your money and do a load of research, and then buy quality in the spring.Don't get caught up and buy cheap now for the sake of getting something to just regret it later.I know,i've done it!:bangHead:!
Another way to go is to buy a nicely tuned QB78 by Magnumair, for the price, you cannot go wrong!!You can check out the QB's at UltimateAirguns.I have one in .22 cal,i can use co2 or HPA.I can tell you it is a heavy hitter and shoots like a dream.
Walter

Buy the time you nickel and dime yourself with the 2289,you'll be $200.00-$300.00 down. Then you'll be saying"WTF?",what a waste,i could of bought something way better!lol. You'll also grow tired of the pumping very quickly.Walter

I have 2 2289's... I love them. The only mod I have done is to plug the bleed hole in the valve. They shot around 380 before the mod.... now around 465.... much better.

I really like them for when we go canoeing and camping... I take them and the youngn's spend lots of time pumping and shooting things... like floating sticks in the river and such... good for down time... and they pack up nicely.

I also have a Discovery.... totally different beast.... :) I have a Diana 54 Air King... now we are talking beast... heavy...

I like all my airguns.... just plain fun.

do you guys use a pump, or tank to fill your discos

i was thinking about the disco & pump deal, but i have been reading good and bad things about the pump that comes with the disco.

one of the thing holding me back on PCP's is the scuba tank filling, when i go to the cabin (weeks at a time) i already have too much #### to haul with me,
wifes stuff
daughters stuff
daughters friends stuff
two dogs
i really don't have the room to add a scuba tank

I use the pump and no problems so far. Also the 2289 is cheap and fun to tinker with sure you will probably end up spending 2-3 hundred by time your finished but it not all a once. And the little tweaking here and there is half the fun. That being said I rarely pick it up anymore I just grab the disco..
