Cross-dominance. How do you deal with it?

I am left handed, right eye dominant. Can barely do anything with my right hand, but shoot long guns righty.
Getting into pistols recently and wonder if shooters have better luck accuracy wise with learning to shoot offhand to suit the dominant eye, or modification of a particular stance?

Thanks.

Well this maybe a sucky answer but you got to figure it out , everybody is different

I have had the same issue and just overcome it with practice and developing muscle memory with my right hand

I have found I am almost ambidextrous now

I have heard things about putting tape or smudging the lens of the dominent eye of your glasses to strengthen your weak eye, if you try it ffs be safe

Don’t rule out airguns and airsoft .... it’s cheaper
Just persevere relax and find your sweet spot

I hope that helps

I am left eye dominant.

I do some stuff R handed and some L handed.

I shoot pistols and long guns R handed with my R eye (left eye covered with a white patch over my glasses when shooting pistols)
That's what i would try if i were you - shooting Left handed with your left eye and cover your right eye but it allows you to keep your eye open which is more comfortable

I can also switch the patch and shoot R handed with my left eye - just a change of stance - you could also try that

I just close my right eye when shooting open sights. Closed optics are no big deal. Shotguns I need to get in the groove and I naturally compensate my shots with both eyes open. It takes practice but you get used to it. My left eye is probably 10 degrees to the right of my point of focus so its a huge difference to overcome.

Nicolas Cage, Firebirds, 1990. Apparently you need a periscope and some panties...

I actually searched the forum to see if that movie has been referenced and haven't come up with any hits. Surprised, since it was the first thing I thought of when my instructor brought up eye dominance.

Good luck! In my pal class of 6, 2 people were cross eye dominant. Anyone know the actual stats on eye dominance VS hand dominance?

I am left handed but right eye dominant. I learn to shoot with my right hand and right eye to aim. I keep both eyes open. Practice and you will get there.

I am left eye dominant / right handed. I modify my stance (turn my head) so that my left eye is in line with my right arm and creates the sight picture... It probably looks odd as my chin is almost on my right shoulder. I know this is not ideal but it works for me and try as I have I just cant shoot with my left hand.. and with both eyes open my dominant eye takes over.

The gf is a fairly new shooter and had some random looking issues, particularly with handguns, until we figured out the cross dominance.
A blinder clipped on her safety glasses is a simple fix and has helped considerably.

I just bring the gun up to the left eye. I seem to be doing pretty well in competition with that.
