Although I'm pretty sure this question has beens asked before I could not find it when I searched, so if someone whould be kind enough to point me in the right direction it would be most appreciated.

A friend recently told me that his Dad lives on 15 acres in a fairly populated area in the Okanogan and wants to harvest one of the deer which frequent his property. He doesn't want to shoot it as the sound of the rifle will upset some of his nieghbours.

So he asked me if it was legal to shoot them with a crossbow?

Also do you need a PAL for a crossbow?

Finally even if this legal is it a humane way to harvest a deer?

Thanks for your help.

the front section of the hunting regs will answer your questions. off the top of my hed the crossbow has to have a 150lb draw on it and the bolt must weight ### amount.

perfectly legal... but, he may want to check municipal bylaws first.

PAL is not neccessary for a crossbow.

It is legal during regular hunting season and bow seasons.
No PAL required, but a hunting licence is.
Pause for thought... if the neighbors don't like the sound of a shot, what will they think if the deer makes it off the 15 acre property before it is imobilized?

Excellent point and one I made to my friend. He tells me that these deer are just about tame and you can get within 15-20 feet of them. Hopefully getting that close would ensure a quick kill although I have seen heart shot deer run 150 yards.

Is there a better way?

A heart shot deer can run that far with a bullet through it.
It may get off the property, but a lot of the deer shot with bows go 100 yards or so and expire, they don't feel much.

Shoot the deer without it knowing and excercise some patience afterwords it will not go far...alarm the deer to your presence and then shoot it and it may go a longish way.
