My son is interested in a sporting clays shoot in BC next month and he is a US resident. Does anyone know if there are any special things to do, with customs etc, to bring his gun up for the shoot?

i imported a gun recently and the border guard was serious about making sure all the serial nos matched----i dont know if thit is going to be an issue at all for you and are they even going to check it that closely since it is a temp import for sport purposes-----just my 2c

I go from CA => USA a few times a year. It depends on the border guard you get. Sometimes they are familiar with the temporary import process, sometimes not. Sometimes they want to check the serial numbers sometimes not. Sometimes they want to do a secondary search, sometimes not. Definitely have all your paperwork in line, or you are in for a headache.

Have a look at the losttarget.com link that was posted. There will be complete information for going from USA => CA. The guy who runs the website is a US shooter who visits CA frequently. The instructions he has are very verbose.

From what I remember, when coming into Canada a US resident will have to stop inside and process their gun. There is a fee required for this, but after you pay it once, you may be able to renew it for a year without further fees. You don't need to do anything ahead of time, you can simply do it when you cross. Allow yourself some extra time to cross, and expect to wait. Bring an invite from the shoot you are going to. If you don't have one, have someone send you an email invite.

If you are coming in from Wash.State,go to Pacific crossing instead of Peace Arch,no one can get it together on firearms issues at Peace Arch
