So there's crown land near to were i live, i looked around and found a great spot to do some target practice, great back stop with it and everything. Now the thing im wondering is, this spot is near a dirt road, used by forest trucks and such, are there any rules as to how far i have to be away from that road-btw the spot i'd be shooting is facing away from the road

Well if it is no a FSR and it falls under region 2-11 (i guess, cant recall now).. you are good to go with non restricted. If it is in the woods you are fine, make sure no buildings around, etc.

I don't know about BC, but you have to be something like 60 feet away from roads at all times in Ontario. (Don't quote me on it, but it is approximate.) You may have a similar law.

Luckily you are in BC. Shoot down the logging roads if you want! There is no minimum distance you need to be from a FSR. But if you are close to a highway make sure you are not in by one of the no hunting/shooting within 400m of the highway areas. The first 400m of a few FSR's are no hunting/shooting areas because of this rule.

Make sure you have a safe backstop (check google earth or a map to see that there isnt roads in behind where you are shooting). Once you have determined it is safe... go crazy. Pick up your garbage.

"...to see that there aren't roads in behind..." Or anything else within 3 to 4 miles if you're shooting centre fire rifles.

thanks everyone, i checked google earth and theres no roads behind my back stop so im all good to go, i'm also going to take a long hike around the area to make sure there arn't any hiking paths or anything like that

If you want a moving target, I have a buddy who is doing his flight training out of Penticton. :D Just kidding....

Have you checked to see if anyone has the rights to the land ????
We had 700 acres of crown land years ago and we didn't get along with people that just wandered in a did what they wanted.
We were quite a ways back into the bush and you had to go out of your way to get to our place, it wasn't something you bumped into easily or by accident.
When people approched us about using it , if they were decent about it we told them where and when they could do what they had in mind so's it didn't interupt our hunt or endanger our being there. The odd guy that was ignorant ,rude and pushy about it found it a long walk back to town to fix a tire.
For the taxes we pay each year we got exclusive rights to the hunting and logging on the area of property just as if we'd owned it, but being crown land you never do, your given a timed lease.

Hi Guys, I have recently started to shoot again. I shot for yrs in Ontario as a kid and in the military. I live near Victoria now. How do I find out where the crown land is and regs about areas not allowed in the southern Vancouver island region. I hear from people just go to Sooke? Any info or suggestions would be appreciated. thanks

I'd like to see that law. That maybe a local by law. But I've only found stating that you have to be out of the 66' road allowance. If anyone knows a link to different, I'd love to see it. You can also shot off of unassumed roads in Ontario.

Sorry for Hijack. Hope the OP found his answers and got to do some plinking.

thanks everyone for the help, found out the place is used by the locals to do alot of shooting, so i've been going up there the past few days having a hell of a time :)
