Not sure if this is the right section for my question, but it is in regard to hunting.

First off, I will give some background to my question, I was hunting in MU 8-1 in BC, Osoyoos area. I have hunted this area for years and the old guys in my camp have for many more. It is an area with a main forrest service road and many side spurs, no private land.

Anyhow, I just got back from our annual trip and had a run in with a large hunting camp that thought it was "ok" to blockade some of the access roads.
There is a large slough/swampy area that is a very good spot with two access points, One has been blocked with 2 large boulders that you can clearly see marks from the equipment that moved them there on it. The other was blocked by their camp and vehicles that were parked in the roadway. The reason we were given when one of the old-timers asked them what they were doing " we don't want to be disturbed while hunting"

My question is, Is this legal? if not, who would I call to report this?

Thanks, Brian

Just west of Oliver, there was the same problem with a land owner that had property that ran parallel to a FSR. He decided one day to put a gate one it a control who had access to the crown parcel behind his place.

Gate didn't last long. I believe that the CO's had it permanently opened.

just go up and ask THEM if its legal, see what kind of answer they give you, if they want to keep hunting for years to come, they will respect other hunters...thats the way i would approach it....cuz everybody knows that CO's wont do much....they have "better" things to worry about!!

Thats BS .

There is no reason that some inconsiderate ass should force others to tell them they are outside the boundries of the law.

These POS self entitled so called hunters should have the book chucked at them. The squeeky wheel gets the oil so stay ontop of the co,s or RCMP and get some action taken. next thing is makeing sure you take pictures and getting in touch with the people and powers in politic.
Sorry but these folks want to play this game then they deserve to be screwed by thier own actions.

If those side roads are FSR's or company roads then hell yes, there's a problem.

If the side roads are non-status road, I really doubt there are legal issues. They would be the same as vacant crown land and camping on them would be legal.

i had read about this on the ministry site that people who try to occupy crown land and make it un usable or out of bounds face a $2500 fine, and any business or commercial enterprize faces a $25000 fine.I looked into it after going to a favourite crown land hunting spot and as I entered I notices a sign that was in the path saying do not enter due to dog training by so and so. I went around that sign and told the person that thought it was his squatters right to tell others to stay out while training his dogs he sells. I find it completely ignorant when people try to claim crown land...I have a feeder hidden on crown land and a stand 100 yards from it. I can only hope that I dont show up opening day and someone is sitting in my stand at my feeder. I know its not my land but I think I would loose it as that is pure disrespect, in this case I hope people will be courteous enough to say someone is hunting this acre of the thousand or so available and they will go else where! But shutting places off and not allowing access is not allowed!

So how much road (and land) is being blocked?

The worst I've seen around here is a guy parking his truck near the end of a logging road to let others know he walked in to the last cut. Blocking a road(s) to isolate a large are is B.S., if you want solitude for hunting then get off the logging roads and blaze your own trails.

The road branches off multiple times after where it has been blocaded (goes on for miles), it also is the access point for various cut lines and a slough that goes on for miles. At one point it was a log haul road, but has been cross stitched where the culverts used to be, there is even a cattle guard still in place at one point.

I would not be mentioning this if it was a small area and hunters were in the field, If I am out scouting and come across a vehicle parked off to the side of a cut line or road, I take it to mean hunters up ahead and I will turn around unless I know the road/cut goes on for miles. I don't like being disturbed, so I try not to do it to others.

I could even understand blocking the way while you are in the field, but not 24/7.

Yeah, I only asked to be sure. I would be steamed too. I would probably ask the guy to move his truck and politely mention all the reasons, including the fact that he is breaking the law. I would even be diplomatic about it, and tell him I'm going in there past them and ask him where they are hunting so I can go somewhere else past them and not disturb them. Should he choose to be a #### about it I would either drive around his truck, or use a tow rope (or bumper) to get it out of the way. Then I would report them when I got back.
