What does the crown on a barrel actually do?? Ive seen rifles with advertised different degree in the crown and was wondering how these degree's affect accuracy??

Cheers!!

The crown is intended to give the bullet a clean release, and often to protect the actual end of the rifling. There are many different styles. There does not seem to be a pronounced advantage of one style over another for a hunting rifle. Many target rifles have 11 degree crowns, others are perpendicular to the bore axis.
