approx how many turns will a crush washer crush (...if a crush washer could crush washers...?)

Right now my flash hider is about 3/4 of a turn off level and I'm not sure if I can crank that much without ruining the washer or the barrel

IMO, it is better to use a peel washer. More precise fit. The accuracy stuff that I've read from a few people, such as Tubb, and Zediker say tighted the FH only hand tight. That tells me that the fit of a peel washer is probably better.

hand tighten - wow didn't think that would hold up...mind you this if for a .22lr but good tip - I will see if I can get a washer under it for now and look into getting a peel washer

A stacked set of very thin washers.

Personally, I think the crush washer would do a better job at holding the muzzle widget. The hand tight part comes from a couple of guys well known in the AR precision department. The peel washer was something new to me until about Jan of this year.

I have 2 ARs that get used fairly often. One has a crush washer on a fair bit more then hand tight, and a vortex flash hider. The other is a birdcage on a crush washer hand tight. Both still well outshoot me in field positions. If I was building, or rebuilding one, and using an attachment that didn't add much torque, I would try a peel washer though.

ARs. A barrel, some human interface parts, and a bunch of bling to screw with. lol.

Crush washers are built to be crushed.

You should always have to tighten at least 90 degrees. Run your flash hider or muzzle break on the threads until it is hand tight. Then tighten at least 90 degrees or up to 450 degrees if necessary.

Crush washers are only to be used once.
