I’m probably going to pick up one of these in a few days. Not sure which route to go..
What are some differences in terms of reliability accuracy etc?
As I see it the CSA is chromed so potentially more longevity. Easier optics mounting options.

CZ is not chrome lined so perhaps more accurate. Comes with 4 mags instead of two. Receiver is not drilled and tapped ready for a side mount. May be of higher quality? Due to it being made alongside battle proven weapons vs CSA being built over here for civilians. Cheaper

What are your thoughts, am I way off base?

I've owned both. and the only reason I got rid of the CZ858 is cuz of the prohib bullsh!t . It was extremely accurate. Didn't need an optic. I also liked keeping it stock looking. I put the real wood furniture on it and that's all I did to it. Love the Vz-58, I changed a lot on it just cuz its more of " black rifle ".

Technical differences aside, its highly likely that the CZs will become prohib in short order, and any CZ acquired after June 30 of 2018 will be ineligible for grandfathered possession.

The CSAs will be unaffected.

I've had both a beat up old 858 and a new vz58. Both ran like a top. Zero malfunctions in either. I only sold the CZ because I wanted one in better condition and was considering mounting optics although I never did. It's nice to have the option with the pre tapped holes. Imo they are the best NR semi (cost, weight, reliability, controls). Especially if you add an ambi mag release and bolt release. Really takes it to the next level.

CZ 858
Pros:
Considerably cheaper price
Built with tougher parts
Cons:
Only 7.62
No warranty
Often used condition
Possible gremlin issue
No factory means to install side mount
Weird shellac gray finish
Most sub variants are in the process of becoming Prohibited paper weights.
Non chrome lined barrel

CSA VZ58
Pros:
7.62 or 5.56
New or used condition widely available
Limited warranty
Generally accepted to be more accurate
Chrome lined Walther barrel
Black parkerised finish
Has factory holes for side mount
Cons:
More expensive
Some reports of parts breaking pre maturely

Except thats just speculation..... the CZ 858 and Swiss Arms rifles are already basically banned. Its a big difference.

Not until C71 comes into force. ANd it may never come into force, or it could come into force next week.

For the OPs consideration however, since he will be buying AFTER the cut off date for grandfathered eligibility, if it does go prohib per C71, he won't be able to keep it legally. That might be what you meant?

No what i meant was more like buying a CZ 858 rn is like renting a cheap smokin hot hooker with aids. There is an extremely high change that the fun will not last.

That all depends on whether or not you want to keep it strictly professional and obtain a receipt and claim it on your taxes, or whether you'd prefer to keep it off book... and how open minded your wife is...
