CSA vs FSN weight

Hey all.

I am wondering if any of you out there have had the chance to compare the weight of the CSA 11.75" carbine to the FSN-01K.

Any exact weight measurements done?

On the CSA Carbine, if you remove the side mount, there are two exposed holes and one goes all the way through the receiver. What do I use to plug them so they don't plague my gun with rust?

I have an FSN01K and I recently, shouldered a nr csa in 5.56. Albeit it had the longer barrel. In NR configuration it was a lot heavier than a standard 858. I didn't get to tear it apart but I was told that the receiver has more material in it given that it was manufactured for semi auto. All things being equal I would imagine the csa being heavier given this fact. Someone is likely to have a 15.5" cz and a csa carbine. Comparing these two would give you a close comparison. I doubt anyone has the csa carbine and the fsn-01k.

The extra weight is mostly in the barrel of the 5.56. Same OD, smaller bore.

There goes my theory.

No surefire way of knowing unless we get them both and weigh them. I don't know how much of an issue the weight difference would be though.

Find some set-screws that match the thread and cut them to the proper length. Or just leave the side mount on.

I can't even guess why two holes would "plague your gun with rust." I'm not concerned in the slightest with the holes in mine.

I think he wants to remove the mount for weight reduction. If your worried about corrosive ammo. I don't think the residue gets even close to those holes. Plus I don't see how you can damage the threads much either. Its a mainly a paper shooting range gun.
