The first 700 rounds through mine were flawless. It jammed bad once and was sent off to Movie Arms for warranty work and declared fixed. Now it won't run 5 rounds without jamming at least 3 times. M/A says send it off again and they'll likely send me a new one. Just getting it boxed up to send it away again. It's a 2013 model which were apparently problematic.

I really like the rifle otherwise and look forward to having it work again.

I bought mine in 7.62x39 from Reliable Gun in Vancouver. I love the rifle. I would go to war with it. It's never had a failure of any kind and has performed perfectly. The plus side to the 223 version is you can buy the AR mag adapter and have 10 rounds. It's more complicated to do with the 7.62x39 and if you do, you won't have the bolt stop working anymore and it will just close and click on empty like an AK or the 1022. The bolt stop is a good function and I would rather not sacrifice it for 5 more rounds in capacity. I would assume the 223 might be a little more accurate though I have never shot one.

I have the .223 version and it has had numerous extraction problems, I've not had a chance to troubleshoot it however. On 5 occasions out of 40 rounds it has failed to extract the fired casing, so the bolt strips the next round from the magazine and smashes it into the fired casing, resulting in the bullet being pushed in and powder everywhere which is fairly annoying. I did a detail strip and clean/de-grease and double and triple checked the extractor function so I'm hoping for more trigger time in the spring with positive results. Very little recoil and I've been minute-of-playing-card at 50 yards with it so it's fun noisemaker.

I have the VZ-58 in 7.62 and 5.56 and love them both. I had zero issues with the 5.56 version until I installed a Gen 1 CSA Magwell adapter . I figured out my magwell issues and the rifle has been trouble-free now after a thousand rounds but it really prefers the Lar-15 and E-lander mags.

What was the issue with the magwell adapter?

Faulty adapter catch would cause the magwell to partially unseat during shooting. I've read of a few others on here that have had the same problem. Bought the 2nd Gen and the catch is exactly the same with the only change being the plastic on the magwell is more robust with more cross-ribbing .

Just to be as pedantic as the magazine/clip guys

VZ 58's come only in 556 not 223

PS love mine but occasionaly have a brass failure where the front half of the shell breaks off when extracting and remains in the chamber, might be the cheap american eagle ammo

it may be a 5.56x45 chamber but the side of the vz58 says .223.
probably for export rules/laws(can sell .223 sporting arms but not the "evil" 5.56x45.
