Had my VZ apart and noticed a groove on the striker near the end that strikes the firing pin. Took my CZH in 7.62x39 apart to see if it had the same and theres one on it also. Does anyone know what the purpose of it is? Thought it was a crack at first

hey D , I think you are talking about the grove that is part of the striker locking mechanism, when you twist the striker near the back of the carrier it allows the striker to come out.

I don't have a sporter , I have a compact .

theres a few different striker styles. some have holes drilled in the side near the striker end others have a thicker back near were the sear catches the striker. i dont see a real purpose for most of the mods. just different styles i think.

Thanks guys, yeah it may be part of the locking mechanism now that I look at it. Was concerned it might be a Crack but my CZH has a groove in the same location. Have already sent this gun to Movie Arms and had it fixed up, love it and don't want anymore issues.

what was wrong with it? wrong size gas port?

It was throwing brass approx 10 feet straight up, when I got it back from Movie Arms the invoice said they had changed the piston, checked the head space, replaced and reset the firing pin. It works great now, throw brass approx 4 to 5 feet away. Just not sure what this groove is, it's below the drilled hole you rotate to remove the striker. I'll try to post a pic, my camera is only taking blurry shots now though.
