As far as I know 223 and 5.56 are not the same at all. everyone thinks they are the same but 5.56 runs at much higher pressures than 223. Might have something to do with it.
That could be a possibility. But both my VZ and my AR are 5.56. It is safe to fire 223 amo in a 5.56 gun. But not the opposite way. Yes the 5.56 is loaded with a bit higher pressure then the 223 and the 223 casing a bit thinner then the 5.56.
But I said its a possibility of my VZ causing the case separation is could be that the Norinco im using is 223 not 5.56. The vz is a 5.56 riffle..so the less pressure in the 223 round is causing less expansion in the firing chamber which leads into play causing case separation and ejection failure. Remember headspace problems is cause by a scratched chamber or a grooved one. Means its not tight enough on that cartridge or the casing is thinner. A working theory....
And how do you explain using the same Norinco amo with 2 of my AR15 and over 3000 rounds fired and not a single jam, case separation or miss fire.
Don't forget that I was using American eagle in addition of the Norinco amo in the VZ.
Check out the thread I started with regards to my issue.

Most definitely a head space issue, possibly caused by soft lugs in the receiver (to be confirmed by north sylva warranty guys). Fine on my soft loads, not so fine on full 5.56. Might not be the same issue as yours, but might be.
