CSA VZ58 bolt reassembly - extractor

Having a boating accident.
OK... I broke a firing pin in my VZ58.. Got the new one today and went to put it in... took the bolt apart no problem, but for the life of me I can't get the spring, plunger and extractor to go back in properly.

I watched a video where they showed the stacking of the components (spring, plunger and extractor... yeah right, that sh!t don't stack and stay in one place!) and then put the bolt down over it. And well, I just can't seem to get it back in the way it's supposed to be.

Any hints, tips or tricks?

Been at it an hour now and haven't even got close...


Oh yeah, the plunger has an end with a "dimple" on it that's smaller than the other end. Does this go to the spring or extractor? When I took it apart I didn't notice this, and so am unsure which way to put it back.. Not much I can find online about it.

I stacked it and held it in with my thumb, used small punch, beware you don't shoot the extractor accross the room (that took a little while to find), took me at least an hour to get it installed. never again :)

Ugh... I think my fingers are to big or something. Cant get the stack to push up into the bolt before the "stack" falls apart.....

I usually try to assemble these things inside a freezer bag, so that when the inevitable "sproing" happens, nothing flies to far.
 
After 2 or 3 time sit gets much easier
I do not use the stack method I hold the bolt horizontally and put the spring half way in then slide the plunger and extractor in. If you push hard it will click and sit at an angle on its own. This is the hardest part.... pull back on the plunger and press down on the extractor at the same time. My fingers are usually pretty sore after

I have seen that stacking technique too and I never use it. You're done now but the trick I have found is you need to angle the extractor into a good starting position and then grip the bolt and push down and slight in on the extractor with your thumb until you get that click and its locked in on an angle, it takes quite a bit of pressure though. After that if you keep a little bit of pressure on it you can depress the spring and plunger with a tool and then tap/shake the extractor into place. It took me (and just about everyone else I know that has done it) a long time to do it the first time too but after that it isn't as much of a pain in the arse.
