I’ve had this issue with my VZ58 since I got it. If I have 5 rounds loaded in the mag when I release the bolt, it seems like it’s too tight and the bolt won’t close all the way and bonds up on the top round while feeding. If I only load 4 in, it runs flawlessly. I have this issue with the factory mags it came with, and with some surplus mags I bought from Dlask. Has anyone else had this issue and how did you resolve it?

i think thats just the way you release your bolt. At first i was just a bit retaining the bolt when releasing it and that was causing jam, not a mag issue but an operator Mistake.Try to pull the bolt at the max backward and let it go without helping. If that doesnt help that could be a weak bolt spring issue

Yeah I’ve tried both ways, releasing the open bolt, or just pulling the bolt back and letting go. I’m. It sure that it’s the spring though because it won’t close with 5 in even if I hit the bolt forward with my hand.

any sharp edges in the path of the cartridge as it enters the chamber? any scratch marks on the cases? i had a 858 that i got well used. it was well worn and had some edges that almost seemed peened over to sharp points and would catch rounds as you describe. on the under side. the cases would scrape the pointy spots and hang up. i smoothed it all out and it ran like a top. also you HAVE to let the bolt fly home on its own. i use an aftermarket bolt release on mine. i dont touch the charging handle. just press the release with peter pointer and she slams home.

if it persists and you suspect the spring, usually you can find a used dust cover assembly with the springs installed for fairly cheap. you could swap just the springs but its a bit of a tricky operation. definitely doable though.
