Hey guys,

I'm curious about the current ammo availability for the canadian market right now. Is there any sign of the supply increasing for the hard to find calibres (such as 6.5prc)? How about large rifle and magnum rifle primers? And powder?

Browsing US sites it looks like they have good stock...so...how about the canadian sites?

I'd just like to point out... at no time in the last two years have our local gun shops been out of magnum LR primers, and there have been spells where 4350 and varget have been hard to get, but 748 has always been in (excellent in my m96 6.5 swede). Neither have websites, and only sell in store. So don't be afraid to leave the basement and go pop your head into the local stores (the ones that support jobs in your community).

well my local shops are tit useless for getting primers in. I think the one shop does get them but i'm pretty sure he only sells them to his buddies that are gun club members.

This is mostly theory so keep that in mind:

When things were going real south in the US in the protests and COVID and such, we actually had better prices and more availability of ammo. I chalk that up to pre-existing contracts and such that ensured we had access to ammunition. Given the demand in the US, the cost of transport, and the desperation of the people to pay more (in USD no less), why wouldn't the ammo producers down there not renew Canadian contracts and keep the ammo for sale in the US? How the turn tables have turned, as the smart ones say. Now they have much more selection and availability than us, and their pool of purchasing power keeps expanding as new owners gobble up the supply. All of this works in combination with their prioritization of military contracts, and there's a new type of ammo that's going into mass production soon, and the factories prioritize the better-selling calibers.

I don't think we'll see some of the high demand stuff, even in common calibers, for some time. The CCI .22 Minimag HPs are a great example. They're mostly gone now, but used to be on every shelf. And PPU 7.62x39 PSP hasn't been imported in some time either. So when it comes to the rare stuff, prepare to wait. I'll let you know if I see some of the rare stuff around though.

For anyone who owns a .223, Canada's Gun Store has a pretty awesome deal right now that I don't think I'll see again in my life. I know it's not a rare caliber but a guy wouldn't be stupid for stocking up while it's available and at this price: https://www.canadasgunstore.ca/prod...-personal-protection-223-rem-62g|24445SP.html

$1 + a round for .223 is a good deal?!?!

$1 + a round for .223 is a good deal?!?!

For this ammo yes, that is a screaming deal the likes of which might never be seen again.
For bulk 55 grain plinking ammo, no. For Speer Gold Dot, absolutely.

Now what a person is going to do with self defense .223 ammo in Canada is another issue, but that aside... It is cheap.
For this price it's cheaper than some of the .223/5.56 that's being sold at Cabelas in 20 round boxes...that are FMJ no less. Plus, I figured this ammo would be more useful for hunting. And from my research, the "personal protection" means it's designed for a short barrel rifle. Kinda like those BCL bolt rifles...might make a good medium game rifle if used with ammo designed for a short barrel.
