I've seen Mosin values reltively high in the seventies and then again just recently. Other than serious collectibles and a few rarer breeds, such as the Finn and Nazi marked rifles, prices are comeing down.
Most of the Mosin owners here now are shooters, not collectors. As the availability of 7.62x54 ammo runs out, the rifles will lose even more value.
The same thing happened with Swede 6.5x55 rifles at first. Other than the surplus ammo available from International Firearms, that came with wooden bullets, plus pulled bulk 160gr fmj bullets and #44 powder for reloading, it was almost impossible to find ammunition. There was a little bit of Dominion ammo around, but few and far between.
Prices stayed low for a long time and many fine Swedes were turned into fine small ring sporters at very low prices because of this. I don't think that will happen with Mosins though. International sported thousands of them for sale in North America and from rumors in the states, they still have a buch in storage for lack of demand.
This financial crunch we are heading for will also have a bad effect on collector values.
