Recently received my application form on Jan 21st, completed it and sent it back. Miramichi received it on January 28th and today I received word my renewal application was processed and I should be getting my new PAL within the next two weeks.

Has anyone else noted faster processing of PALs lately?

I thought it was lightening speed, recieved renewal notice mid december, sent application 6th of Jan. Not sure when they processed it, but I have had it in my hot little hands for almost a week now. Got it Feb. 4th.

I'm enrolled in a class to write(?) my tests in two weeks. So what's avg. turn around time for PAL? Is there diff. in timeframe for a renewal & a new license?
Can I ask them to FedEx me the stuff to fasten up the process?

Yes there is a difference between a new Licence and a renewal. Once a new licence is processed, they hold it for the minimum 28 day cooling off period, not from the day they received it.

No they will not fedxex it. however you can download the forms off of the site or your instructor should have them and give you a set when you take your test.

Make sure that you fill out all of the form. most are returned because of missing signatures of gurantees or missing filling out the spouse area. make sure you check the N/a if this is your case.

Also note that at present there is no fee required.

Minimum for a new licence is three months average.

I was really hoping to get it sooner. Oh well ... it is what it is. At least I'll be able to start shooting in the summer. Thank you for your very prompt replies.

Sigh, my test is with the CFO and I hope to send it off soon to the CFO. All my paperwork is sitting here waiting... I am joining a range later this month and want to be able to do some shooting!!!

me and my father both challenged the test at the same time and mailed our applications for a PAL in the same envelope( jan 23rd). Since then his has been completed and is in the mail on the way to him feb 4rth (according to status) while mine is done the initial processing and is waiting for something else. the reason i believe is that my father already had POL license and has already waited the manditory 28 day waiting period while i have not. So they would send his out right away and make mine wait the 28 days.

They say they require a minimum 45 days to process a new application.

they recieved my application on the 4th, finished initial processing on the 5th i believe, phoned me up and asked me and my mom(my guaranter) some questions on the 6th i think, but the status is still the same. hope the phone call means theyre almost finished with it though.
does anyone know if the waiting period is still 28 days for an RPal, or is it longer?

Rec'd my application Dec 31/07, I called Jan 15 as the message on the site said they would contacting me, supplied the new phone number and they said it was all ok now. Called again feb 5, and they said it is still in progress, now at the Ont CFO's. SO, Feb 9th, and it is still in progress.

:sniper: PAL

Where can a guy go to check the status on a PAL. I mailed mine in last week and I was wondering if there was some way to keep track.

As a general rule (and I mean there is the giant unknown factor) it will take approximately 42 days from the time you send your completed application in to the time you are looking at your picture on the plastic card. Your person giving the test should have all the application paperwork you need. I sent mine express post because I'm just anal that way but it's not neccessary. 28 days for proccessing and approval and then up to 14 days for mailing and arrival to you. There will be horror stories from some and "I got mine in two weeks" stories but the average is 40-42 days. Patience is difficult at this time and you will wear holes in those gun pictures with your eyes like I did but the card will come and all will be well. Take the waiting time to do lots of research and ask lots of questions here and at the gun shops. You wll learn a lot and also at the shops who is patient and worth doing business with once you get your freedom card.
