Has anybody here put a custom match grade barrel in 303 brit on a No4? If so what were the results? All the fancy target work seems to have been done on the 7.62 platform.

A friend of mine does .223 Rem varmint rifle conversions on LB and Savage No4 actions. These are single shots and feature a one piece stock and a heavy barrel. They are butt ugly and work passing well, but the heavy "truck axle" barrels make the No4 action look mighty flimsy indeed.

All things being equal there are more suitable actions to fit with match grade barrels and other accuracy upgrades. A heavy .308 barrel on a M700 Rem, M70 Win or commercial M98 action is a better investment from both accuracy and financial aspects.

Of course that is true but both boring & predictable. Someone has to defend the honor of the empire against these "imports".
Juan, why No5 & not No4?

I just wish someone would make an affordable .303 barrel so we could bring these pupies back to their former glory.

Pakistan and India do but we don't import any.................Chambers in the UK has new ones and can't ship here...........................Harold

I have done it using 308 match barrels and a 303 brit reamer. The 308 Brit shoot fairly well.

308 barrels are easy to come by and so are the bullets. Looking at the ammo, you would not know it isn't 303.
