Custom build revolver carbine

There is only one precedent from the lab on this one - the Taurus revolver carbine. The lab ruled it restricted, despite it being over 26.5 inches over all and having a shoulder stock. There's no real logic involved, the answer you get reflects nothing more than the opinion of the minor Deity who looked at the gun on the particular day. The lab opinion also isn't permanent, if they rule it Non-res today, they could change their hive mind tomorrow and decide to prohibit and confiscate, or simply restrict it. In a similar vein, if anyone can tell me how those dumb 'Mares Leg' cut down rifles are non-res while the Taurus carbine is restricted I'll buy them a beer.

Well, I guess I will have to check with the powers that be and see if a U.S. gunsmith ships a 16" barrelled action to Canada - would it be restricted.

I have a reproduction of a Remington 1858 revolving carbine and it is non-restricted.

My understanding:

It is a handgun.

Adding a long barrel and a stock does not make it a rifle unless it was built that way from the factory on a completely different designed frame. If it uses a handgun frame, it will be restricted.

Once looked into importing from the USA a Wichita bolt action, rifle calibre pistol. Only for the single purpose of modifying it to a non-restricted rifle here in Canada. Rifle length barrel, new stock, etc etc.....

Until I came upon the, once a handgun, always a handgun regulation from the RCMP/CFC.

thank you very much
