looking for a holster for a 4 inch S&W L frame. for range use and legal for IDPA and IPSC. must have full trigger guard covered, thumb snap for retention, and front sight protection. not really interested in plastic, nylon or other synthetics (although a Safariland Level 1/2 holster would work but new ones are hard to find and duty versions crazy $$$). must be someone out there? I may try US makers as well, but the waits are ridiculous.

By custom, do you have special features in mind? Or just because it’s a 4” model?

Unless you’re looking for something unique, check out the bigger US holster companies, like Bianchi, Safariland, Galco and de Santis. They should have regular inventory and the 4” 686 isn’t a rare gun down there. So with luck, delivery shouldn’t be too long.

Holsters are not ITAR items so there should be no issue getting one in 4”. Won’t be cheap though. Back in my leather holster days, I really liked the de Santis products. They were the softest and easiest to work of the big name manufacturers.

I have been happy with my High Noon Holster. I got mine in horse hide. They often have sales around US Holidays. You might want to check them out. Prices are competitive.
