I'm really, really proud of this and I wanted to show it off somewhere. I figured somebody here might appreciate it.
Here is my Sako Quad .22LR
- Lilja Sundberg Taper barrel (bought from Hipro Precision) - free floated
- DIP / Rimfire Technologies Picatinny Rail
- DIP / Rimfire Technologies Trigger Guard
- J&P Hex Head Action Screws
- Burris Signature Zee Rings (High)
- Vortex Crossfire 8x32x56mm
- Dlask Arms SR-22 picatinny rail (for bottom bi-pod mount)
- UTG Bi-Pod (TL-BP28ST - Best $34 I've spent in a while!)
- Trigger lightened by way of polishing and backing out pull weight screw to maximum extent (filed trigger mechanism mounting screw down)
- Trigger Guard and Receiver glass bedded with JB Weld
- Custom Stock:
I didn't feel like springing the $500 or so for a McMillan or Manners stock and nobody else inlets stocks for the Sako Quad so I decided to make my own.
The design is loosely based on the KMW Sentinel stock
ht tp://kmwlrs.com/SENTINELstocks.htm
but the shape and some features are different and mine is made from a laminate material instead of Fibreglass.
I bought the wood blank from Cousineau Wood Proucts
ht tp://www.cousineauwoodproducts.com/
It is called Olive Green (a mixture of green and grey 1/16" laminates).
The wood was finished with approx 8 coats of Birchwood Casey Tru-Oil. It was my first time using this product and it's awesome! Very easy to use, drys fast and has a wonderful finish!
I've spent probablly close to 45 hours on this stock to take if from the wood blank to what you're seeing here. Lots and lots of sawdust and wood shavings and the wood rasps and sand paper are my new best friends.
It fits me for LOP, my hand grip, my forestock hand placement (with finger grooves). It's nice having a custom built stock that is fit just to you.
I've made a few mistakes here and there and the finish and a few other things are not perfect (trigger guard inletting), but it's the first stock that I've ever built and normally I'm absolutely horrible with wood work! Despite weight reducing boring holes under the barrel and in the buttstock, it is quite heavy still, so I'm thinking this one will be for the bench only!
I've had the rifle out to shoot (minus the stock) and out of 6 targets with 5 rds of SK Standard Plus, all were sub-MOA at 50 yards, and three consecutive were 0.325", 0.362" and 0.375" Barrel hasn't even been broken in yet and I only tried one brand of ammo! I have high hopes for this rifle! I'm proud of it and can't wait to shoot it at EESA's Rimfire Match on October 1st.
I can't wait to see what this rifle will do in the future.

Even my boys approve!
