I'm really, really proud of this and I wanted to show it off somewhere. I figured somebody here might appreciate it.

- Custom Stock:

I didn't feel like springing the $500 or so for a McMillan or Manners stock and nobody else inlets stocks for the Sako Quad so I decided to make my own.

The design is loosely based on the KMW Sentinel stock
ht tp://kmwlrs.com/SENTINELstocks.htm
but the shape and some features are different and mine is made from a laminate material instead of Fibreglass.

I bought the wood blank from Cousineau Wood Proucts
ht tp://www.cousineauwoodproducts.com/
It is called Olive Green (a mixture of green and grey 1/16" laminates).

The wood was finished with approx 8 coats of Birchwood Casey Tru-Oil. It was my first time using this product and it's awesome! Very easy to use, drys fast and has a wonderful finish!

I've spent probablly close to 45 hours on this stock to take if from the wood blank to what you're seeing here. Lots and lots of sawdust and wood shavings and the wood rasps and sand paper are my new best friends.

It fits me for LOP, my hand grip, my forestock hand placement (with finger grooves). It's nice having a custom built stock that is fit just to you.

I've made a few mistakes here and there and the finish and a few other things are not perfect (trigger guard inletting), but it's the first stock that I've ever built and normally I'm absolutely horrible with wood work! Despite weight reducing boring holes under the barrel and in the buttstock, it is quite heavy still, so I'm thinking this one will be for the bench only!

I've had the rifle out to shoot (minus the stock) and out of 6 targets with 5 rds of SK Standard Plus, all were sub-MOA at 50 yards, and three consecutive were 0.325", 0.362" and 0.375" Barrel hasn't even been broken in yet and I only tried one brand of ammo! I have high hopes for this rifle! I'm proud of it and can't wait to shoot it at EESA's Rimfire Match on October 1st.

I can't wait to see what this rifle will do in the future.

Here's some more pictures for your enjoyment:

As requested, here are some updated groups of the entire package as shot this past weekend.

This was some ammo testing as I shot these groups with RWS Target Rifle and would be a whole lot better if I didn't get excited while shooting the groups and end up with flyers!

I received the DIP/RT rail and trigger guard as part of the deal when I bought this rifle from another CGN'er (6mm Shooter). I'm not sure where he got it from or if he got it before they stopped sending products to Canada... sorry I can't help those interested, but I'm sure glad that I have them! (no they are not for sale...)

One problem that I didn't forsee - with the tall hand grip and target turrets, the rifle is almost too tall to fit in my hard cover rifle cases!

It's really heavy too. I've since have bored our more wood from the forestock to lighten it up some.

More shooting to do with it, but I'm very happy with it!

Thanks for all the positive words and feedback!

I usually use Winchester Dynapoints but I'm going to be on the lookout for a better value standard velocity offering.

I want to find a better balance between consistancy and price having just gone through 5000 rds of SK Standard Plus in the last 6 months ($495!!!)

I want standard velocity and consistant performance but with a good price. CCI Standard Velocity comes to mind but do you (or any one else) have any suggestions?
