Here I go again with some more custom ideas again. Taking up ever so precious forum space with some newbish QnA. Hey, dreaming up ideas and being creative is what I do. And I get paid and make a living by doing so.

Anyway. I have been on a SKS buzz of late. Not too big into customizing old milsurps, unless it's a reproduction of a true rifle. But with the SKS being the Honda Civic of rifles, why not.

Is there any gunsmiths in Canada that offer a service to build a stock of your own design specifications? I know it is probably too expensive for the SKS platform. But I don't like any of the "aftermarket" wood stocks that are currently on the market. The only choice seems to be the thumbhole or monte carlo style, which I do not like. And I'm not a tactical guy, so no.

The design I have in mind is nothing too elaborate. It is based off of the Iraqi Tabuk DMR

The only feature I want is the hollowed out buttstock along with a wood pistol grip. The rest is pretty much standard SKS stock.

True... But I am not trying to make a Tubak clone. Just a custom stock.
Here is a better example

Imagine the pistol grip as being wood, and the butt stock hollowed like the Tabuk.

Not to rain on your parade, but a CZ858 would be much better to get what you're looking for...

Now that you mention it. I keep forgetting about the CZ858...

The hard part about the sks is that the trigger group and the receiver needs the stock to be complete. So you would need to cut off the stock and add a new one to the old wooden one. Might be too much hassle and might not look that great...I've seen pistol grips on wooden sks stocks and they looked pretty terrible...lol

Ah I see, thanks for the tip. I was thinking of getting a full wood custom, but that might be a pain for any gunsmith to make a one-off stock. It would also cost a good penny. The SKS is good enough the way it is.

I guess it would make more sense to just buy a CZ858 and put a furniture set from these guys. (third one down) And If I really wanted to go full clone, all I need is a Tabuk barrel. If it can be threaded in, and if the gas piston system is interchangeable, which I doubt. But, not much into the CZ858.
