Anyone seen or have done custom work on a Savage rimfire? looking for ideas. For what Savage is they shoot great the way they are, just wondering if anyone has seen or had unique things done to there gun.

I was thinking of a larger bolt handle like a badger bolt but sized right. maybe find a custom stock or just wait for the new ones coming out. Also I was thinking of getting one DuraCoated to make it different,
My son just desided he wants a New Savage Mark IIG now to replace his old Hiawatha tube gun. the cost would be about 2 bills and I might get that duracoated to the color he likes.

Just finished with mine this morning. Savage 93R17 bull barrel.

Boyds unfinished Evolution stock in Bumblebee laminate, took me 2 weeks to finish it. Some inletting needed to be done around the safety because it is a pre accutrigger model. Then inletted the stock some more when the finish was done for a Bedrock glass bedding kit and this morning my trigger guard and mag plate showed up from Savage. Put it all together and voila.....

MadDog Now that's looking sharp. was that a boyds 10/22 stock you started with? I wonder if a Boyds Blaster would work?

I have seen this picture and want to take my Savage 93R17FV 17hmr and copy it then change the bolt & stock a bit.
the finish on with OD green & black on this gun is not over powering and looks nice.

Did they say they will not ship to Canada?

First I've ever heard of that. I know Fred pretty well and he'd ship to me no hassles.

He was kinda pissed at me for getting the Boyds I think but most of his rimfire stocks are benchrest stocks and I didn't really wanna go that route.

No, thats a Savage evolution stock, not a 10/22 evolution. Boyds used to make them and then stopped for some reason. Savage is offering a model this year with a brown laminate evolution stock that looks identical to Boyds, I'm guessing they're buying the stocks off Boyds and he had to end selling them publically due to the contract, just a guess though. I found my evolution stock on GunBroker (unfinished) Boyds doesn't list them anymore.

I asked them if they shipped and they said yes but all the rimfire stocks are over the $100 limit. I just assumed you wouldn't be able to get them.

ah geez, why?
the Savage is a low-end, budget gun. theyre OK for what you pay for them.
but if youre going to spend even as little as $150 on custom work on it, then that money is far better spent towards a better platform like a CZ or Ruger 77/22.

This was the gun my son picked, I offered to build him a 10/22 & he said no all he wants is his old Hiawatha tube feed gun replaced I took him to work & had him pick a gun he likes and he said the Savage Mark II G was his choice. So if it makes the kid happy then it's a $200. gun for him. How many kids do you know that would settle for a cheaper gun.

as for h ttp://www.sharpshootersupply.com I was interested in there Savage stock for a FV .17hmr I have. I'm just waiting to see what the new Savage stocks look like.

One of the guys at the club got a machinist to make him a new bolt handle. It looks really sharp. He is going to get another one made up for me (I asked him really nicely) cost is about $80..... I'll post pics when I finally get it.

Apparently the bolt handle just screws in and out, so if you took your current bolt handle to a local machine shop (after removing it), they could make one up for you to your exact specs.

Cheers!
