Anyone have any luck cutting and rethreading a Rem 1100 barrel for RemChoke tubes?

I have heard that it can be done, but the local gunsmith (Rem authorized dealer) says the barrel is too thin and it won't work well.

Does anyone know where I can get it done and how much it would cost me?

I have a 30" fixed full barrel and I would like to chop it to 21" and re-thread it.

Anyone have any ideas?

The outside diameter of the barrel has to be absolutely no less than .845 where you are planing to cut it. This is for 12 ga barrels. An alternative if your barrel dosen't measure up is a screw in choke adapter from Brownells. Basically its a blued piece of tubing that is threaded for srew in chokes, you prep the end of the barrel in the lathe press on the adapter and solder in place. One thing about the Brownells adapters is they only use Winchokes. However you can make an adapter out of an old piece of barrel. I've done both with no problems.

Not many older Remington barrels can be threaded for the Rem Choke system... they are not heavy enough... most of them can be threaded for other after market tube systems.
