I got a great deal on a matching numbers Savage No4 that had already been cut down to 19 inches. I didn`t have another barrel but I did have a forestock that was kinda rough with a lot of deep scratches on the outside and for whatever reason, a bunch of deep cuts in the barrel channel. After cutting to fit and a lot of sanding, here`s what I ended up with. Please note, Before you call me Bubba It was cut before I got it. Gonna shoot it later this week.

I think these were sold as ''tanker'' Lee-Enfields way back when. At least the job on your rifle was somewhat well done.

EDIT: Scratch that, forgot the part where you added the wood. Hey, at least you got a reproduction of a bubba that was once sold.

What I would do is source one of the barrels that are cut down to the front sight (approx 23") and move the front sight block further back down the barrel so the it proportional to the original at about 21" to 22"

I did the same sort of thing but used the bubba'ed forestock and spliced a chunk on for the front half and hid the splice under the barrel band.

saves another stock for an uncut barrel job.

When I was 18 I bought a 2 groove Savage and cut the barrel to 19 inch's and turned it into my go to rifle. I still have it and strip and repaint it every 5 year's.
I turned 48 2 month's ago.

OMG!!

A ROUND Cocking-piece Savage. More than a little bit scarce.

Does the Bolt number match the Body?

What is the s/n range?

I am really afraid that Bubba might have butchered the wrong one!

Very tidy rig! Since you've gone this far, you may wish to consider a little more work and figure out a way to install a muzzle brake of some sort. That 19" barrel will have a wicked muzzle flash.

The quality of the wood used in those days always amazes me. Wonder if the sights even come close to matching in height.
'They' being professional bubba companies like Century, marketed No. 5's as 'tanker' rifles, long ago. No self-respecting armoured type would be caught dead with any rifle, except maybe an M1 Carbine. No space for a rifle in a tank.
