I know the laws concerning cutting barrels, my question is about manufactured barrels less then 18 inches. Are barrels manufactured shorter then 18 inches marked in some way so LEO know it is an manufactured extra short barrel?

They can tell a lot by what proof marks are on the barrel, also if you have a 12 inch barrel that says full choke on the side , that is usually a giveaway. Also they do know what barrel lengths makers have made, so if you have a 13 1/4 barrel that says remington on it, you are pooched. Also most short barrels have a bead that is significantly raised (on a pedastel), so if you just have a bead on it. Bottom line is that a cut barrel shorter than 18 inches turns the gun into a prohibited device and the penalty is the same as if you were running around with a full auto uzi with a bandoleer full of 30 rd mags. The other thing is that if the cop on the beat is at all uncertain, he will just seize the gun legal or not and let the higher up's or the court sort it out

Ok, I figured there should/would be some way to ID a manufactured short barrel, I wouldn't want to buy something and find out the hard way it was just cut down by the neighbourhood handyman.
Hope someone can post pictures of any markings I should look for in case I look to buy off the EE.

My new Dlask is marked 12 1/2:

I have a 12.5" Chinese barrel for my 870 from CanAm. It has no length markings on it, just the gauge and chamber length. It should prove interesting if I run across a LEO while out in the bush.

ive had cops stop when i was just unlocking my arsenal on my tailgate up in the bush at a typical shooting spot. they looked everything over and only asked about my moss 715t asking what make it was. said nothing about my 12.5 grizz sitting right in front of him lol.
