To cut a 14" pellet gun barrel to 10"
Sub-500fps 2240 build, i want a longer barrel for sight radius. I will be careful with velocities of course. I know on a "real" firearm this would be a nay nay..
A nice 2240 buntline build for 20m spinners sounds fun.

I’ve cut a couple of barrels for a 2240 and a 1322. I wrapped the breech end in painters tape then chucked it up in a drill clamped in a workmate bench. Pinned the trigger on with an elastic band. I used a cut off wheel in a minigrinder to cut with a supported hand. They are soft barrels and easy to cut. Once I had lopped off the excess barrel I used sandpaper wrapped around a paint stir stick getting higher in grit until the muzzle was smooth while still spinning in the drill. Then once I had it looking nice and smooth I crowned with a round headed brass screw and some fine lapping paste. Both turned out great but machinists are probably cringing at my method. Lol

2240’s are a lot of fun if you like to tinker. The 10/22 of the airgun world. Mine is currently set up as a 1740 with a 10” barrel. Little lighter spring in the valve, a lighter hammer spring, and a restricted transfer port and it gets 75 shots to a cart before it starts to drop off averaging 450 fps.

It takes a bit of work to get a 2240 with a 10” barrel to go over 500fps. I have a 10” barrel and an extended probe, still easily under 500 but getting closer.

They do take the same barrels. I happen to have 2 14" barrels collecting dust here. 14" is a bit long on the pistol, and very difficult to keep legal.

You can. I've done a few like Tinner4 mentioned, but made a center support ( 2x4 with a hole cut in it for the barrel ) Also used a drill press and lowered the barrel on a piece of sand paper to square up.

Yeah 22XXs, you kind of need a power adjuster if dealing with longer barrels. And tuning in the winter is harder because, colder weather = lower velocity. So when it gets warmer, they creep up.

You may be flirting with danger...

Pellet guns and under 500fps guns are still considered firearms.

Uregulated firearms, but the barrel cutting law likely will not make the distination.

I may very well be wrong, but it would be worth looking into

I have read on an airgun forum that as long as the airgun is "factory" the manufacturer velocity is accepted by the RCMP.
If modified in any way, they may take it to the lab for testing and you don't know what weight pellets they're using so both the velocity may exceed 500fps and the energy 4.2 foot-pounds.
But that's just something I read on the internet.

If the barrel is choked you may not want to shorten it? On the other hand velocities in cold weather using C02 can be controlled by simply a handwarmer wrapped on the gas tube/velcro sleeve good for a couple hours.

As a backyard plinker in rural ontario, its not like it will ever be scrutinized like that. I still want to be legal; which to me is anything under 500fps with a standard pellet. My concern was the legality for cutting a barrel less than 18"

Barrel length doesn't matter on non PAL airgun. As long as you confirm with the 500 FPS 4.2 FPE rules.. And not have any light weight pellets in your collection.

Barrels I shortened were not choked. But who wants to have a hand warmer mounted on a gun?

The only time they bother you, if you shooting airguns unsafety or neighbors complain. I can count on 1 hand in 20 years of playing with airguns, that I heard they bothered checking the velocity.

Guess you don't hunt with C02 much in sub zero do you.My scoped/stocked 2240 carbine 10" with a velocity adjuster cracks 495fps.No problem head hooting grouse at 20+ yards. A handwarmer wrapped on the gas tube is effective and unnoticeable for short walks down cutlines taking rabbits or grouse.A carbine doesn't fit concealed to keep it warm. For ditch sweeping it can lay on the heated dash of the truck. To each their own.Use a springer and a golf bag to drag it along.
