cutting an 870 barrel

This may sound like a silly question but if I cut down a 28" 870 barrel to 18.5" will the constriction be "cylinder" or is the barrel narrower near the chamber?

It will be Cylinder. Essentially, the bore is the same size from the tip of the forcing cone to right to where the choke starts.

If you are going to have a gun smith do the job... It might be easier/cheaper to sell your gun with the 28" barrel and buy either a 12" Grizzly (With choke tubes)

or a 18.5" Norinco ...
