Hi,
I am thinking of cutting down an old 67 for my 5 year old. I am thinking a 18” barrel and taking the stock down to 11.25 pull. Is this a good idea? Or should I just trade it for a rascal?
Thanks

how much value do you put on the Winchester- doing anyting to a Winchester devalues it- even the old cooey 39s- i'd shop around for a cheapo rather than cut anything- there's lots of old 22s around

for those who don't know what a Winchester 67 is( I had to look it up) it's the Winchester equivalent of the old cooey single shot

Not sure what the value of the 67 is. I am a little unsure of cutting up such an old gun. It does have an old stock repair at the butt that might hurt the value.

For what its worth, my son loves the Rascal I just gave him for his birthday. I really like the Savage action for the kidlings (no cocking knob to pull back). But if the Winchester is what you have to work with, I wouldn't hesitate to cut it down, especially if the stock is already less than pristine. Just my opinion.

I believe I saw one at the Salmon Arm gun show yesterday.
Memory tells me $250 was on the sticker.
A bunch of years back they were $125 or near this.

Do what you will, but they don't make these anymore.

Second that...the Rascal is designed for kids, lightweight, good trigger ,single shot ,accurate and comes with a peep sight..

For what a new Rascal costs, I would just buy one of those instead of going to the trouble of cutting down an old gun. I wouldn't necessarily feel bad about modifying a Winchester 67 out of concern for collectability (it's basically one step above a Cooey), but when there is an such an inexpensive off-the-shelf alternative, why bother?

:agree: It would be a shame to cut down the old Winchester.

I had a 67 at a gun show a couple of months back . It sounds like yours is in very much the same shape as the one I sold . It had a good bore and a crack in the wood. It sat on my table for 2 days befor someone took it at $75.00. So if were in your boots and could do the mods myself. I would not hesatate to alter a classic old winchester that you allready have into some thing your son could use. As opposed to spending $300.00 for new rascal. I would check that his fingers have enough strengh to #### it first.

Traded the 67 off on a Mossberg Half-pint at LGS. My daughter chose it over the Rascal because she liked the wood stock. Took it out, was not impressed by the trigger.
