Looking at building a short turkey build out of a mossberg 930.

It currently wears a 24" barrel, but this is a bit to long for shooting in my blind.

Anyone have personal experience with having a barrel cut down and re threaded?

If not I was thinking of purchasing an 18.5 barrel to have re-threaded.
Any recommended gunsmiths in the Ottawa Valley area (Didnt have a good experience with valley smithing)?

Thank you.

When i looked into shortening an accuchoke mossberg barrel i was told it would need thin wall chokes once shortened as the barrel wasnt as thick as it was at the
muzzle. That was for a pump but id bet if your 930 takes accuchokes it would be the same.
Likely cheaper to try to buy a new short barrel factory threaded

If it takes the accumag chokes im not sure. Iirc my 930 guns took accuchokes not the over bore series

unfortunately no short barrels exist under 24" for the 930 that are threaded for chokes. I can get an 18.5 inch cylinder bore, I wonder if that may have enough metal as it wont be cut?

The barrels would need thin walls for sure. I wouldnt cut a 24” barrel. If you want a shorter barrel I’d go with a 18.5” and have it threaded. Between the cost of a barrel and having it threaded, the whole process will set you back about $400 which I dont think is really worth it

probably best to just buy the 930 JM pro with the 22" barrel then and add the Urbino stock to shorten it a bit more ...thanks for the info

Interestingly, I was considering the same project. Elwood Epps quoted $125 to thread the cylinder bore of the 18.5 “ bbl ... provided the bbl wall is thick enough (and I think it is). With taxes and round trips that’s roughly $200. My guess is you could trade your 24” bbl for an 18.5” on EE. Personally, I think an 18.5” bbl with screw-in chokes is a great idea.
