I've got a Norinco SKS, nothing special, and I'm thinking about removing the bayonet mount (proper term?). I have no need for the bayonet or cleaning rod and the rifle looks cleaner without it. Is this some sacrilege? I have cursed Bubba so many times on other rifles, I don't want to be considered one. Advice please!

more info needed before my decision is made

This rifle being a Norinco and therefore possibly a nockoff as Norinco is known to do, I am fence sitting at this point without furthur info. But if it is an original military firearm, I would consider this to be very sacrilidge and you'd be a bubba.

It's a norinco... I have one that the previous owner did a very crude grinding job with...

I plan to touch it up with a file and finish the job. I agree that it looks better without, and I don't keep the cleaning kit with it, either.

Cut it off if you want, grind it gradually so you don't overheat the barrel, then smooth up the job with a good file, sand it down, then blue/pant, whatever the spot.

you would be cursed bubba if it was a russian sks45 .:D

but a its OK for a norinco cos many in the US were forced to have the bayo lug and bayo removed bcos it was considered evil looking and now i believe the laws has changed and many are trying to weld them back .
