Cutting the front sight off MR1

Has anyone done this, are the fins and front sight base solid polymer?

Bought an MR1 the other day, The rear sight was already removed, So I plan on purchasing and mounting some 1-6 optic (most likely a Strike eagle), and trying to mount it as low as possible ( I want the sight line as close to the barrel as possible) . At this point I dont really see a reason to leave the front sight assembly on the gun anymore. Plus I think the gun will look and feel nicer with it all gone...
 
1 you will ruin any resale value.
2 the front sight will not interfere at all with an optic.
3 they are alreday quite low.
4 it is your gun... do what you want.
 
Go for it, worst thing that can happen is you need to buy a new handguard for it!

Although the front sight may not get too much in the way at 3x or above, it may be a little distracting at 1-2x magnification, and if someone already removed the rear sight then it's literally useless on the front handguard!

Depending on the magnification ring size, you could probably use low 30mm rings...

SO I went ahead with it.....

The plastic was not hollow.... but there was a few bubbles bedded within it.

Overall im fairly happy with the results. I got a 1-6 Vortex Strike Eagle coming in the mail, and now that the front irons are out of the way, I may be able to mount the scope really low using Low 30mm rings like suggested :cool:

I also reversed the scope rail to allow optics to be mounted back further. I switched out the mag latch spring so the button is much more easier to press and so the magazines slide into the mag well easier.

I am now looking into rigging up a bolt release that can be operated by the index finger.
 
Looks like you at least did a good job of it. Not something I would have done though. Hope you're happy with it at least. :cheers:
 
Looks nice! If the bubbles bother you, it should be pretty easy to use a putty knife and some epoxy like JB-Quick to fill it in, then let it cure and sand the high parts off, then some Krylon Fusion Ultra-flat black which is a pretty good match for Benelli black plastic (it's a little lighter black because of the texture being more rough)

But looks like a great job, should look good with the Vortex on top!
 
Well done. It would be interesting to see someone make an aluminum front handguard for it with a full length rail. Aftermarket parts haven't really caught on for this platform yet.
 
I was thinking about cnc'ing an adapter plate on the back to mount like a ace stock, or famea stock.... But the angled down buffer tube on the MR1 ruins those plans :(
