This CVA had a problem with poor ignition and lots of hang fires. I "tuned " the lock and tweaked the vent liner.
Working much better now :dancingbanana:

Cheers nessy.

I, for one, would be interested in a post that goes into a little more detail.

I'm starting to get a hankerin' for a flinter to hunt with, and would be very interested in hearing what is done to "tune" a lock, and what to look for.

Cheers

How about a stickied thread "Flintlock shooting tips"; post your tips and suggestions for Flinters ?
What do you think ?

As a noob of sorts to the blackpowder game (I whacked a doe with a percussion .45 that was loaned to me in exchange for the repair work I did) I am interested in the flinter route as a way to go hunting "paperless".

I have yet to even be around a flintlock shooting. Most of the muzzleloader set I know are percussion and pellets kind of guys.

I am interested in hearing any pointers that anyone wants to chime in with.

Technical info like tuning tips and how to troubleshoot a lock would be appreciated.

Cheers

if you get a gun with a quality lock theres not much to it, the cheaper stuff is sometimes hard to make work very well, i have , four flinters, the locks are siler, l&r,2 quality locks from caywood, they are all perfect, i have also experience with northstar, and various others, if you get a flinter email me if you want for tips, whlehto@shaw.ca

Thanks for the offer Wade.

I figure to make the leap in the next year or so if all goes well. In any case, I am still interested in some details and experiences.

Cheers
