Recently purchased a CVA Scout 2 in 45/70 and was wondering if anyone has seen any documentation or has comments on action strength. As you're probably aware it is a single shot, break action rifle and I'm trying ascertain what pressure loads are safe for reloading. Basically for the 45/70 there are three pressure loadings, lowest for the original trapdoor style, the moderate for the newer 45/70 lever guns and highest for the falling blocks like the Ruger #1 or Winchester rifles. What are others loading to for their CVA's?
I suspect it should be safe loading at least to the lever gun pressure levels but can't find any information to confirm it. I attempted to contact the company but didn't hear a peep back.
Your thoughts?
Thanks

CVA Scout rifles are chambered in 243 Win, 308 Win, 6.5 Creed - those are 60,000 PSI cartridges
I think in this situation though, it's not quite apples to apples, as bolt thrust is calculated based on the cartridge case head *area* x pressure. In similar cartridges with the same size bolt face I totally agree.

Made an oops, fixed it

Thought I might add, that you should be able to pull about 1950-2000 fps with a 400 grain bullet, and 1500-1600 fps with a 500 grain and be within the limits of this rifle. Not too shabby.

Yes that was my understanding of psi. More surface area equals more overall pressure.
