2x this year while Elk hunting(rifle) I called in Bull Moose....I have had this happen more than once per season over past 7-8 years. It usually happens on those first frosty Sept. mornings around the 15th.

Trouble is the Moose season is archery.

So for next year I am going to carry both rifle & bow. So the next time it happens I can switch to Archery Moose.

I want a lightweight takedown rifle that can be packed away so I can carry my bow more easily.

One that caught my eye is CVA scout in either .444 Marlin(which I all ready have dies, brass, bullets and ammo for)....OR 35 Whelen. I am leaning towards Whelen because I hunt cutblocks and shots can be longer sometimes.

I would prefer a 7mm-08 BUT dont think its made in that cartridge?

No dealers for CVA Scout in Canada?

Anyone have either rifle? I know either cartridge will do the job on Moose or Elk.

My buddy picked up a CVA in 45-70 from IRUNGUNS last year. Not sure if it was a the Scout model or something else? He likes it.

I emailed a Canadian company the idea of a rifle similar to the cva to fill the void left by the handi

He seemed interested in the idea

I like the idea of the Whelen in a single shot

I think previous versions were chambered in 7mm-08....I am a fan of .444 Marlin as well. Be nice to have barrel switch barrel option.

I think full power 35 whelen or 444 marlin loads might be pretty stout in a small short rifle?

If you in Ontario, you will be breaking the law... if you are bowhunting moose here, you cannot be in possession of a centerfire rifle... even if there is an open rifle season for other big game... stupid but true.

In Sask you can do it...it is kinda a stupid season because it is pretty easy for someone to shoot a Moose in neck or head with a rifle and claim it as an archery kill
