CX Storm Trigger Woes...

Had a range session yesterday and while shooting my non-restricted Storm
in 9MM, the same two issues kept surfacing....
What a great, accurate, handy little carbine... offhand shots on a 12" steel plate using an Eotech were no problem, BUT what a crappy trigger... heavy,
gritty, release right at the back of travel, and what a fiddly mag release...
It's no surprize that people who trial/own these things have a hard time loving them...I guess that's why I have one of the Oly 9MM Glock units on order!..
Does anyone have any thoughts/suggestions/cures for these almost terminal
maladies????

The trigger woes are the only reason i haven't bought one, and why I keep thinking about the Olympic Arms from Mark.

I beleive some shooters in the US have replaced the dowel pins with better quality steel to take out some of the slop and grit. Unfortunately I don't know anyone up here offering the work.

Well I have both...

The trigger on the Storm is pretty bad but it didn't take long to get used to it. I use it for IPSC so it's workable but it isn't idea for 100 yard plus shooting.

Interesting that you don't like the Mag release...I really like it. It's very pistol like.

The Oly has a much better trigger but I find it slightly less easy to shoot. Not bad, but the Storm wins this aspect hands down.

They're both great rifles...

I agree with quigly. I actually like the mag release. The trigger is a bit heavy but, as already stated, it's very easy to get used to. I have continuosly hit 6" steel plates at 105 Yds. Haven't tried it out any further yet. Cheap ammo, fast follow-up shots and negligible felt recoil make it an excellent carbine.

Regards.

Thanks for the input boys...
I spent some time yesterday thinking about the problems...
I cleaned and lubed the trigger/?sear contact point, and there was a considerable improvement in the weight and quality of the trigger...
As well, I reversed the mag release..with the stock setup, I had a lot of problem manipulating the release with my thumb because of the stock.. now I can reach it with less hassle, using my middle finger, right hand... reloads are now much easier and quicker!

If it shoots when I pull the trigger, it is good enough for me. I can't wait to get my storm.
Yikes!!! Your mom should have told you it's OK to be a little critical once and awhile....
My Nana once told me, " Son, if your mouth is full of it, it's OK to say it's ####!"

LOL:rolleyes: I am not a picky person when it comes to insignificant things like a trigger. I like it when I pull the trigger and it goes bang. That's about it...

Triggers and their pull weights are more than insignificant. They can make or break the firearm; depending upon its use. I expect a reasonable trigger when I purchase a product, the storm being a bit heavy isn't the issue in my mind. The real issue is the gritty feel and length of pull.

True enough. However, the Storm was never designed as a precision rifle with a super smooth, adjustable 2 stage trigger. It is a neat, dependable more than adequately accurate carbine. Heavy trigger, I agree entirely. But I really think the issue is exhagerrated. The trigger feel is not bad enough to warrant getting rid of / not buying the CX4.

and it wasn't intended for true accuracy, someone actually thought it would make a good police carbine, hence the brutal "safe" trigger. Unfortunately, not a lot can be done on it, but some work can be done to smooth it up. I hear that there is an American company that is going to be making metal drop in parts, where currently the Storm has plastic.

I've heard of people machining the post down. when I get my next one I think I might apply some tech I've seen done to Glock pistols and flattop the whole thing, get rid of the sights altogether and put a long rail on it. I've seen a photo of one that was done (could've been photoshop though) and it looked much better. I like the Storm, but would've preferred a more traditional look and feel to it.

Beretta mags only. Perhaps some one who has experimented with this kind of thing may be able to tell you what aother mags can be adapted to work. I was looking at a 9mm XD (great pistol / carbine combo with interchangeable mags) in the hopes of having the same mags as my Storm but it looks as though there would be to many mods to make it work reliably.
