I have spent quite some time looking for a cylinder for a model 29-3 in 44 cal that I inheritated from my Cousin Vinny. He must have double loaded and it is gunny sacked in one chamber. This is a beauty with the 10 1/2 " barrel and a beauty grip.

Let me know if anyone nows where to get one as I have tried the States gun parts dealers and they are back ordered. A few have popped up on Ebay but they won't ship to Canada.

I would be grateful.

I think the largest S & W service department in Canada is MD Charleton Co. just outside of Victoria.

Try 604 652-5266

I ordered a replacement for my 686 from Wortners in Chatham (519-352-0924) a few years back.

Correct me if I am wrong but I was told that, until a match is found, the cylinders are hand fitted when the gun is assembled to ensure that they time and advance right and that ordering a new one was somewhat risky as this procedure would not be carried out.

My new cylinder works better than my old one did.

S&W would only supply magnum parts (barrels and cylinders) to actual warranty centers. There are some kicking around from teardowns and such. It will have to be fitted anyway, so the warranty center idea has a lot of merit. Murray does very good work on S&Ws by the way. - dan
Good point Dan and something I should have added to my post. Wortners is the other Warranty Center for S&W in Canada.

Gentleman I appreciate that advise, I thought it would be just as simple as exchanging it. I have taken these apart before and never had a problem. Should I be concerned about the ones I have put back togethjer myself?

Depends. Are you swapping parts back and forth between revolvers? If you are, then yeah, you can effect timing, so I would be very careful about checking that. Sometimes they do interchange though (like any two machined parts, minimum to maximum fit), so you could get lucky. - dan

"...He must have double loaded and it is gunny sacked in one chamber..." Gunny sacked? As in blown out? That needs to go to a smithy who can check the frame as well. The stop strap is likely bent. The whole frame may be damaged too.

You are right I believe that he double loaded. I will get it checked out by a gun smith. We have a pretty competent fellow in Saskatoon that I will check it out with.
