What have you guys been getting for accuracy out of these?

I just bought one of the Americans and was not really pleased with the accuracy,..

running 1-1/2 to 2-1/2 inches at 100 meters...it was a bit windy but I expected a bit better...tried 6 different types of ammo....nothing stood out.

I am going to float the barrel and maybe glass bed it.

Did you guys have to do any mods to get them consistently in an inch?

You might want to try several brands of ammo.

You SHOULD be getting an inch or less at 100 yards. There will be many variables that could affect accuracy however and some improvenments you could make. Variables could be wind, cant of the gun, consistency of gun on rest, trigger execution, follow through, etc. Wind has actually quite a big affect on the .17 - about as much as the .22 I believe so that would be something to watch for. As far as improvements, glass bedding, pillar bedding and free floating would all likely help. Also, torquing and experinmenting with the action screws would likely help. What type of scope were you using?
 
I have no clue about the CZ, but my Savage 17 HMR can hit a 18" piece of hanging 3/8" plated chain at 200 yards 4 shots out of 5.
 
i got a new 452 american in 17hmr last weekend.. first 5 shots after sighting the scope were about 1.5cm at 80 meters.. when i did my part they were single hole absolutely dead centre.. the only spread in the group was caused by me, not the rifle.. i think the rifle will put every round in the same hole every shot if not for the human pulling the trigger.

and that was straight out of the box with 17g V shok federal stuff... it is one of the most accurate rifles i've ever seen or shot.. in fact it puts a lot of match rifles to shame..

If its was windy out you'll groups will suffer.

I have a CZ 17 hmr as well, I lightened the trigger and it shoots well under an inch at 100yds and at 50 yds it will shoot under .250 easy.
 
I'd take it back. I bought a CZ .22 Mag last year, and like your's it shot poorly even after trying a bunch of different ammo. Being that I'd bought it locally I stuck it back in the box and returned it with my story. I'm a regular customer, which may have helped but they gave me my choice of in stock replacements or a refund. I went home with a .17 HMR full-stock that shoots enough 1/2" groups to convince me that CZ can make the occasional clunker. You shouldn't have to rebuild a new higher priced rimfire to make it shoot.
