I recently picked up a CZ452 in .17HMR

I have a cheepy bushnell rimfire scope on it now, but it deserves something better.

It's mostly used for gophers so I need something with decent magnification.

Any suggestions? :D

What can you afford?

If it is anything there are some nice ones to get, if it is only about 100-150 look for a decent used bushnell on the EE. I got a nice Bushnell Banner 4-12 with AO for my 1022T and am very impressed with it, it was less than 100 bucks shipped.

I have some fairly good glass on my 17 rifles and I generally use the high magnifacation at the range, but almost never in the field. 2 of my guns have 5-15's on them and the other is a Simmons in a 6.5-20, can't think of the last time in the field that I used them to shoot something on higher than 10 powder. You better check with the guy on the recent .17 hmr or 22mag post.he is shooting stuff out to 300 yards with his set up.I just wish I could see that far.

I use a nikon buckmaster 6-18x40. Works well for me and has a side focus. The only negative is that is does not focus closer than 50 yards.

It is as clear as my Leupold, and half the price.

I have the same rifle. I put a cheap tasco 6-24 power scope on it. I can shoot to 300 yard with it. the only crappy thing with the cheap scope is it goes hazy when you go above 18 power. The setup work great at 12 power. the scope costs 110$

The only reason I'd add a 17hmr to my collection was to shoot beyond 50 yards and for that I'd prefer a variable scope with a fairly strong high end. How much you are willing to spend will determine what range it can have and how sharp it will be. 4.5-14 or 5-15 would be a good choice, as would a quality scope having even higher magnification. Personally, I'd want one with mildots or target turrets to help with trajectory on long range gophers. Its pretty cool when you find your adjustments for various distances and can confidently hit right on at whatever distance you choose to shoot at. Bushnell 3200 tactical 5-15AO mildot would be a nice scope for $450.

That's a nice rifle you have there, and it deserves a good scope.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I was hoping to keep the price around $400, but I'm flexible.

I think I'd prefer something with a mil-dot rectile. I was looking at scopes with target turrets, but I think that would be a nuisance in the gopher fields, when target distances are constantly changing. I'd rather learn the rifle, and get comfortable with holdover.

Decent zoom is a must. I've already got a Harris bi-pod on it, and I've been regularly using 9x to pick off sod poodles with the bushnell I've got on it now

im sure im like the only guy here who recommends Leapers. but get a leapers 3-12x44 with side paralax adjustment, and if you want - illuminated reticle for low light shooting.

on a .17hmr theres not going to any issues with recoil/falling apart.

.17 is also pretty accurate and the newer model leapers tend to have 1/8" adjustments.

i use one on my savage .17hmr , its great

they are Mildot reticle as well
