There's a CZ 452 American .22 WMR down at the local store calling out to me and I'm thinking I just might answer and bring it home :D

Anyone have a CZ American in .22 mag? any problems? accuracy same as the .22LR's? etc....

What concerns should I have with mounting a scope? Do you really need such high rings?

Scope/rings/bases suggestions are needed also.

Thank You for the help

love my 22 mag american, you may have feeding probs with the i did, there are remedies but mine worked itself out ,super acurate,so much so that i got rid of a few 22 mags, just because mine has a nice piece of wood,go for it you wont regret it ,

I've read about the magazine/feeding problems and in fact have this nifty little diagram on how to possibly fix it, if needed :

Dogger1, what scope/rings you have on yours?

The dovetail base on the American rifles is 3/8". I'm using Leupold high rings and a 3-9x 40mm Banner Dusk and Dawn scope. Fits about right for me. Mines a 22LR so I can't comment on the 22WMR accuracy. I suspect if you have the right ammo, the gun will shoot better than I could hold it.

I'll need it for squirrels and such :D

Went and got some more hands on the .22 MWR and almost brought it home.

The only thing holding me back is if I want to buy a $500 rimfire rifle or just go get a .223 for a few $$ more

Man.......

I had thought about 22WMR and 17HMR and ended up kind of bracketing that by buying a 22LR and a 223. You just can't beat the accurate cheap shooting of a 22LR, and the fact that it may be welcome some places the 223 just isn't. The 223 sure has the range and is very accurate at 200 yard and should have some decent varmint takedown at that range. I think I'd consider buying whichever one you think you'll get the most immediate use out of, then buy the other later. You'll probably want both eventually. If all you are needing is a squirrel and gopher gun, maybe get a 22LR, where you can buy a brick of shells for $16.00 and then get a 223 later for bigger animals and greater range. I don't have time anymore to reload, and shooting hundreds of factor 223 rounds is too expensive. The barrel heats up a lot faster than rimfire as well.

I love my CZ452 Varmint .22LR. It's set up to mimick my .223 LTR sniper rig (both have 20" hvy bbls). The CZ Varmint has a $ 135 Leupold LR/T Mark4M1 Knockoff from Kommunist China that truly looks like a Leupold. Holds zero for my .223 when I did the box test (6 MOA up, 4 MOA over to the right, 6 MOA down, and 4 MOA left) with the knockoff.

Then on the CZ, I mounted a Blackhawk Industries cheekpiece, just like the .223 LTR. Side by side, they look very similar, but this CZ Varmint is my training rifle for both Service and Sniper games. Also, it's coming with me to Calgary on my gopher safari this summer.

Buy the CZ, you won't be wrong with the quality. Then again, if the .22WMR fills your needs, go for it. If you already have a .22LR bolt gun and a .223 varmint gitter, then maybe you have enough to go out and zap lotsa critters already. Find what works for you.

Peace be to journey

Yeah same for me. Have a 452 22lr now and love it so I sold my No 1 223 and am waiting for a CZ527 223 to come in. Should be here next week. Both are lefties and the 452 is a dream to shoot. Found an old BRNO CZ468 trainer single shot for my wife and will pick that up next weekend. I would go with the 22lr and 223 combo too-makes the most sense to me. Setting up to reload the 223. Lotsa deals on the EE for 223 stuff.:)

I bought a CZ .22 Mag not too long ago and it proved to be a disapointment. The best groups were about 2 inches and the worst about 4. After running every type of ammo WSS had I gave up and took it back. They offered to give me a new one, but when they didn't have one I ended up going with a .17 HMR, full-stock. Today was the maiden run with 3 types of ammo. The worst groups were 1 inch vertically strung, and the best was 5 in 1/2". Talk about a difference to the .22 Mag! Even CZ can make a clunker once in a while.
I'm attributing the vertical stringing to inconsistant forend placement on the bags, once I paid more attention things tightened right up. Watch out gophers!

Could this be a result of the ammo? I have 2 friends that both bought decent 22mags and got fed up with the crappy accuracy and sold them. I have heard of this a lot and only read of maybe 2 or 3 on this site that thought they were actually accurate. Think Im sticking with the 22lr and the 223. Covers me for all the shooting I have in mind for 22cal period. Got my new CZ527 leftie 223 tonite and am busting a gut to take it out. Test target that came from the factory is a 3/4in group shot. I sure do like them CZs and it is easy to get a leftie from them. We now have 3.
