CZ 452 scope and SR22 red dot help

First off, I have found this forum immensely informative and have addicted to the wealth of information on here which has led me to a splurge of rimfire purchases. I have no experience in scopes as I used iron sights all these years and beads for shotguns. I have tons and tons of reading on here and I am trying to make a good purchase for glass for my new CZ rifles and my sons SR22 rifle. I live in a small town with the closest gun store an hour drive from here.

Recently I used up some Christmas money and purchased a CZ 452 varmint .22LR, CZ 455 American .17HMR and a Magnum Research MLR22AT for myself. I am looking for glass and rings for each. After many threads of reading it seems a 3-9x40x Nikon or Leupold would be a good fit but I am looking for sound advice because to be honest those numbers do not mean much to me. Plan on shooting targets out to 100 yards and hunting jackrabbits. I have a max budget of $400 per rifle. If someone could shed some light on what to outfit them with and where to purchase that would great.

I purchased my son a SR22 rifle for fun when he is taking a break from shooting his Savage Rascal. I would like to put a decent red dot on it as well.

Again, I have read many threads on here and it seems the Nikon, Leupold and Weaver seem to come up a lot but really would like to just purchase a scope once and be happy with it so I am really thankful for anyone to take the time to provide some detailed information. Thanks again.

For scopes under $400 The vortex viper 3-4x40 gets my vote. Extremely nice glass. That scope is comparable to my ziess conquests. Cant say enough good things about it. For ease of mounting the scopes to the cz's get a d.i.p rail and use any weaver style rings you want.

This is the rail you need for each gun. The cz 452 varmint in 22lr has an 11mm groove and all 455's have an 11mm groove.

the extended mag real ease is also very nice. I have them on all my cz's as well as those rails.
 
My wife has a Burris on her CZ452, it works very well. However, rumor has it that the hash marks in the Burris Fulfield II line up perfectly to the bullet drop of the HMR.
Can't help on where to find one though, it came on another rifle.
 
If your shooting out to 100 yards I would recommend something with some more power than 3-9X so you can actually see where you're hitting. I have a Cabelas 6-18x scope on my .17 and can see the holes in those orange peel targets, but I'd still like to go even higher yet like 6-24X or 8-32X. This is for punching paper however, if your hunting its a whole different story. Vortex gets good reviews, as does Redfield which is made by Leuopold I believe and would be in your price range as well. Personally, my next rimfire scope will be a Mueller which can now be bought off of amazon .ca which by the way has some decent prices. May be useful to ask/search on the optics forum as well. Going into the store with a short list and looking through them all to test clarity, eye relief, different reticles and the like would also be helpful.
 
Have a Bushnell trophy xlt 6-18 x 40 on my CZ 455 17 hmr, picked it up for a great price and it works great.

I have several straight stocked CZ 452's (Americans and Varmints) equipped with scopes, while my hog-back stocked 452's (Luxes, UL and FS) are equipped with a mix of ghost rings, apertured Brno/CZ match sights and the great factory tangent sights. Without any hesitation, I would recommend the Leupold VX-II 3-9 x 33mm Rimfire EFR scope for your Varmint. This is an Adjustable Objective (AO) scope which allows you adjust for parallax (i.e. targets at 100 yd and hunting rabbits in closer, free of parallax issues). If you push your budget up a little bit and buy the Leupold, you will not regret it. Leupold's 1" Ringmount Rimfire 11mm high gloss rings fit the Varmint very well.

This would be my suggestion, as well.

As for the red dot: I have a Vortec Sparc mounted on my SR-22 and it seems like a great little unit.
 
I just got into target shooting with .22LR rifle after thinking about it for a year or so, went into a gun store and after looking at a few rifles the guy showed me a CZ 452 Lux and it was love at first sight. The sights were just what I wanted but at 50 yards my old eyes just couldn't make them work so when Reliable had their annual kick ass sale I got a Leupold VX-2 3-9 33mm and some rings for the 11mm grooves. I had to remove the rear blade from the sight to get the scope to fit but it is on there solid now. Sighting it in was quick and painless even for a newb and after a couple of range trips the groups just keep getting better.
 
Great, thanks for the info guys. I will look into the suggested scopes you provided. I knew about the Leupold and Nikon but did not know about the Vortex models so I will have a look into those. Maybe I will try a different one for each of the rifles. Are there any disadvantages from going up to the 4-12*x40 instead of the more popular 3-9x40? Any good places in Canada that carry those you guys would recommend? I have decided on the Bushnell TRS-25 red dot for my sons SR22. Thanks again for the responses, especially regarding mounting info.

Congrats on your purchase. You will love the CZs.
I have Leupolds and one Nikon Prostaff Rimfire on my CZs. They are very good scopes with excellent warranty. You have gotten some great suggestions in regards to scope selection from other folks. I think 4-12x40 is the way to go if you want to shoot beyond 50 meters. No real disadvantage over the 3-9x40 except for a slightly smaller field of view if you are hunting in dense bush and have the scope set at a minimum magnification. My only suggestion is that you avoid center fire scopes that have parallax set for 100-150 yard shooting. ideally you want to buy an adjustable objective scope that allows you to adjust parallax setting based on the distance you are shooting or a hard set rimfire scope that has parallax setting adjusted to 50 or 60 yards. I hear that a lot but only have one "rimfire" scope. Unless you are shooting matches or buying something like eley tenet and trying to shoot shooting .100" groups at 50 yards I see no difference. I can just as easily pull off small groups ).5" or less at 50) with centerfire scopes that have 100 yard parallax.
