I've been staring at my Scout for over a month waiting for the new vortex crossfire II's to come in, and I got tired of waiting! I switched my order to the first scope I looked at because it was in stock and I realized it was probably a more suitable fit for this gun anyway. In the meantime I experimented with some bedding using leather that didn't work for me, I ended up just doing a traditional epoxy bedding in the front and rear action voids, but left the sides and center wood as is.

I was going to put a crossfire II 6-18x44ao on it, but I opted for a vortex diamondback 2-7x35 rimfire with 50yard parallax, I'm very happy with the decision! This diamondback scope is unbelievably clear and has a decent .3 moa v-plex reticle. Given the size of this scope, I can't fathom how big the 6-18x44 must be. I mounted it with Burris signature ZEE medium rings and J&P 11mm adapters I picked up from Looky.

So today I'll see what this rig will do at 50m... I have some CCi standard velocity and SK standard plus to run through the paces. It has been shooting about 3/4" groups with the CCI up until now with a really old bushnell 4x that has a thick post and crosswire reticle. I'm hoping the better glass and sk standard plus will outshine my previous efforts.

I think now that I'm using a scope with smaller objective, I can replace my homemade sight blank with the original rear sight. Shame, I put quite a bit of work into that... Slow rust blued and everything.

You sure do sport nice taste buds there Mikey.
Great looking rig and the pieces fit nicely.
Fast focus on the ocular piece too.
Curious to know the $ of the scope?
Waiting for the update on the target photos as well.
Cheers.

Well... Not my best shooting to date. But I have the mother of all head colds and I'm leaking from every hole in my head, and it was breaking my concentration. Plus it was rather breezy.

But, all in all not bad. It certainly has potential to do some great things once I'm feeling better, and I have a calm day to shoot on. I'm also still getting used to the new yodave trigger... Given some time and practice I should be driving tacks.

Glass is very nice! Super happy with the whole setup. Here are all the groups I had time to shoot today. All are 5 rounds at 50m with a front rest only, unsupported rear.

Best groups were my last two.

That scope looks big enough on that rifle. A larger scope would dwarf it.
Those groups aren't too shabby, especially without a rear rest. My cz doesn't shoot standard velocity or laupa club (same as sk standard I think) very well. It actually shoots cci mini mags (40grn solid) much better than both.

That rifle and scope look real good together. Looks like it's gonna shoot just fine too. Nice!

Thanks... I'm staring at it quite a bit!

And I think it shoots just fine too. I know when it's my fault for poor groupings, and today, with my eyes watering and nose running, sniffling and sneezing like crazy, I just wasn't on my game, and even then the groups still aren't bad. But, it also has a hunting reticle so I'm not expecting match accuracy anyway. If I can keep it under 1/2" on a good day I'll be very happy, and I dont see that being a problem.

I was feeling a bit better today... weather was still chitty and rather breezy though.

I took the Scout back out for another round of testing using CCI standard and SK Standard plus. This time i did a bit of experimenting with torque settings, and i discovered that i had forgotten to remove the leather washer from under the action screw when i did my leather bedding job which didnt work out.

First off i removed that, and then started with a clean barrel and shot 5 round groups at 25m until i was getting things tightened up a bit. I found it does not like the action to be overly tight.

I then moved out to 50m and fired several 10 round groups of both types of ammo. The breeze was clearly affecting the shooting, but nevertheless it was grouping MUCH better than before.

Here is 10 rounds of SK standard plus. you can see the effect of the strong left to right wind. I called the flyer... i flinched.

10 rounds of CCI standard velocity. This lot of ammo has been notorious for over charged rounds sending a high flyer.

Best group of the day was shot by the SK, and i was shooting at a .303 british bullet hole in the paper after i had zeroed the POA to the POI. I put my last 3 rounds of SK into the hole. I know, it's only 3 rounds and hardly qualifies as a group, but i was pretty impressed none the less.

My last 10 rounds of CCI standard was sent down to the 100m mark. This really surprised me. I was careful to only shoot between gusts of wind... and it paid off. The group was about 1.5". Again not my best shooting, but pretty good for the ammo, and a scope with 7x magnification and fixed 50m parallax. as far as i could tell by checking the back of the target, 4 bullets went through the same hole at the top of the group

It's coming together nicely!

Over at rimfire central a lot of guys are saying their scouts are more accuarte than any of their other CZ's, can't wait to try mine out! Any other accurizing tips? Planning on a proper bed for it? One action screw seems a bit strange but the gun doesn't seem to mind.

It's my only CZ so i cant say whether or not it's more accurate than any other CZ, but from my limited testing it seems purdy accurate. Once i get more comfortable with it (with the short LOP that is), and more trigger time, im sure it will only get better.

As for accurizing, i did bed the voids in the stock, front and rear of the action, and i opened up the barrel channel a tad to make sure it was fully floating and the barrel didnt touch when fired. I contemplated pillar bedding it, but there is an awful lot going on in the action where the pillar would have to go, so i decided it was more work than it was likely worth. Im not going to be entering any matches with this gun, it's just a fun accurate plinker for me.

As for the one action screw, i believe it acts as a fulcrum and so long as it is inletted/bedded properly it should not be any hinderance whatsoever. i was initially concerned also, but my fears have been put to rest with this last range session. im really looking forward to some better weather to get in some serious practice with it.
