If you had the choice between a cz 452 varmint 22lr and a cz 455 varmint 22lr both new in box for the same price (452 has a beech wood stock), which would you choose and why?

Think about stock upgrades.

Since they are both out of production... your options are running out.

If you want to keep them as is, then the 452 is generally the preferred choice because it has a threaded barrel.

I have no complaints about the accuracy of my 452, but I have no 455 to compare it to. At the same time it would be unrealistic to expect it to be any better than what I get from my 452. Under 5 inches at 300 yards in calm conditions.

I saw a Tikka in a KRG stock at a PRS match a few weeks ago... that looked like a real sharp rig and he shot very well.

I'm a CZ fan, not an expert...but I'm not sure I've ever seen a 452 Varmint with a beech stock. Not saying they don't exist, I've just never seen one. However, I'd pick a 452 over a 455 any day of the week. I prefer the old-school CZ/BRNO way the barrels are threaded onto the receiver with the 452s. I'm not going to say anything bad about 455s, I've never owned..or even shot one. I do think it's allot easier to find threads on shooting forums discussing 455 problems than it is to find the same stories about 452s. The decision is yours, I'm not going to ARGUE for/against either...except to say my money is quite literally on the 452s, and I firmly believe this quantum shift in how they're made is nothing more than a cost-saving measure for CZ. (=not a value-added option for potential owners) Nobody has to agree with me, or my trouble-free 452s. :)

I have a Cz452 trainer rifle with adjustable sights... its a nice looking rifle, works perfectly and is very accurate with the iron sights. I have never mounted a scope on it. Funny I have a Norinco JW25a 22lr like a mini k98 which is easily equally as accurate as the CZ452.... I have yet to shoot as good a group as the Norinco with my CZ rifle. The quality difference is obvious but one really isn't better than the other. Per the CZ 455 I think the main difference is materials in the receiver which includes more polymer parts to my knowledge. Accuracy should be equal.

I'm old school and have 4 x 452s. Nothing against the 455s. Just happened that way. Or maybe I made it happen that way. Who knows?

If I was born a lot more recently, maybe I would've had 455s.

But as others have said, its your coin. So toss a coin. I do hope you get the 452.

Both should be equally accurate, provided both barrels are the same quality. Having said that, my 452 Varmint shoots slightly better than my 455 American did, but that's mostly because of the way the two are configured. The Varmint is a considerably heavier, more stable rifle.

The 455 is easier to build on should you choose to upgrade the barrel at some point, since the barrel is a slip fit in the action.

The 455 uses two action screws instead of the 452s single action screw and barrel lug.

The 455 trigger may be slightly better than the 452, my 455 trigger had less creep. Both are improvable if you choose to.

I've never seen a beech stock on a 452 Varmint either, which is not to say it's impossible. CZ has made some unicorns over the years. Be sure it's a Varmint, some of the foreign market Americans had beech stocks, Australian I think?
The 452 is probably your best return on investment if you decide to sell at some point. They aren't being made anymore and have a reputation for being the best of the CZ rimfires, deserved or otherwise.
The CZ lottery goes like this.. the vast majority are good shooters, a few are amazingly accurate for the price, and a few are dogs.
My advice would be to buy both in the short term, shoot them both and sell the one you like the least. The stocks aren't interchangeable.

Have you compared the 452 and 455 to the new 457?

I did my research and chose the 457 over the other two even thou the older models where cheaper. Several selling points on the 457 for me was the adjustable trigger; weight, creep and over travel... no need to upgrade. Changeable barrel like the 455. New Safety and I like the bolt release method, similar to the Tikka.

My 16" barrel 457 MTR is very accurate. Informal shooting with cheapy Rem Thunderbolt at 50 yards yielded this result. Love to see the results if it was formal shooting? 5 shots to the right where CCI Quiets at 50 yards.

I have the 455 military trainer with the same tangent sights I compete with in open sight category and all season with my old tired eyes, I have been either first or second with it; I have a Norinco JW I compete with in scope class (always in the top three, but more often 1st. From a bench rest they shoot about the same if I use Eley Sport in the JW; but the CZ shoots more different ammo well than does the JW. The CZ shoots high velocity way better than the JW too. It shoots stingers as well as it shoots Standard Velocity CCI.

Fit, finish, and feel is worth every penny.

Their new trigger looks impressive for sure!

I haven't owned a 452, but I have 7 455's on the wall, with #8 in the mail. I've used them all except #7, only sighted in. #8 on the way is an "American Red", basically a Canadian without the maple leaf.

Of course, I do realize the barrels may fall off at any time, but I'm stuck with them now. ;)

I'd take the prettier one. If all equal I'd go with the 455 because you can swap the barrels easier.

True, but I think that would be a PITA. as you would need to take the rifle apart, put it together, then go to the range for a sight-in if you are shooting scope with one or more barrels.

I'm just going to wait for a good deal on a CZ 455 Lux, put a scope on it, and replace my Norinco. Someone is going to get a great rifle when that Norinco goes up for sale!!
