So as the title states I have a newly acquired CZ455 FS (.22lr) and I am looking at getting the Leupold VX-2 1-4x20mm scope for the rifle. https://www.leupold.com/hunting-shooting/scopes/vx-2-riflescopes/vx-2-1-4x20mm/

This rifle will be used for target shooting up to 50m but primarily small game hunting. I have enjoyed shooting it with iron sights but I would like to scope it since I have a Henry H001ML (.22lr) with a full length rear stock as a fun open sight rifle that I use for small game hunting as well.

I think it will suit my needs and the look of the scope with no objective bell suits the look of the rifle very nicely. So my main questions are:

Anyone used this scope before and what are the opinions on it?

Anything else in this category that I should consider over the Leupold?

Are there any vendors in particular you would recommend to order it with?

If there are any particular mounts you would recommend I would love to hear it.

Thanks everyone!

Dan

that scope will be a great compliment to the CZ for your intended use. I've got the VX3 1.5-5 on my 452 full stock and love the combo. full stock rifles suit a low powered scope, and nothing better than the Leuopld IMO. I'd look for a lightly used one on the EE. lots of good dovetail mounts out there... I have no real preference.

That will be a dandy hunting set up for your full stock. The bonus with the VX2 is the shape of the ocular that clears the CZ bolt handle little better than VX 1 (non-rimfire) or VX3. You will be able to mount the scope fairly low = nice cheek weld.
Not sure how well it will be suited for target shooting at 50 because of the standard duplex reticle (thickness) and low magnification.

Pictures?

CZ rifles have a different cut to their dovetails, standard mounts won't mate properly. You can get away with it, but if you get a set of rings that are made for CZ rifles you'll get a more solid mount. I have a set of Talley's on my 455. Much like these

I think that would be a great setup. I had the Talley low mounts and a Leupold 4x28mm fixed scope on a 452 FS. Those rings put the Leupold about as low as it can possibly go. A nice, lightweight, compact setup.

Thank you very much for the replies everyone, good to know I'm barking up the right tree here!

BeanKozi- Thank you for the input and very nice lineup you have! Your FS looks great.

Kodi- Thank you and thats some great info there, really helped me solidify my choice.

kolik1 and pneumatic thank you very much for the mount recommendations, much appreciated!

Thanks everyone, this has really helped me out

Thank you for the replies everyone! Yeah I'm looking forward to finding a vendor from this site that can order one for me as they aren't in stock anywhere I can find. I've had good experience dealing with site vendors so far so feel free to give me a suggestion. Really appreciate the info!

Not to be a contrarian here, but I'd look for a scope with more high end. The 1-4 power range is fine, I guess, for woods hunting purposes, but is under-powered, in my opinion, for effective target shooting even at 50 yards. My recommendation for a scope that will cover all your needs would be the Leupold VX-2 3-9X33 mm Rimfire EFR model. With the EFR feature, you can focus (and be parallax-free) down to 10 yards, and with that power range, you're good to go for pretty well all target shooting you will do. And the FOV at 3-power is sufficiently wide for all hunting purposes. Pretty much the perfect all-around rimfire scope in my opinion--appropriately compact with a great power range.

They should be readily available in Canada at places like Grouse River, Frontier Firearms, and Wanstalls. I'd suggest you shoot Clay Smiley at Prophet River Firearms an email and see what he can do for you. Clay's prices are usually very good.

I tend to agree with South Pender on the magnification. I've used low magnification scopes, such as 1.5-4.5 x 20 on a couple of rifles. At low power, it's great for close shots, almost zero magnification but you have cross hairs to aim with. The problems I had were with longer shots, and low light situations. That 20mm objective doesn't gather much light compared to a 40mm or even 33mm.
I have the scope he mentioned, VX2 3-9 x 33 Rimfire EFR. Crystal clear glass, great scope. I don't like EFR or AO on a hunting scope, it's fine for range work though. I find the eye relief a tad short with that scope on a CZ 455 American. Offset rings or a DIP rail might solve that problem.

South Pender/Chilly807- Thank your input regarding the magnification, I agree that with a low power it will make longer shots very challenging. I will keep the scope recommendation in mind if I decide to put together a fun .22 for the range, thank you both for the suggestions.

For the small game hunting I do, 95% of my shots are from 10-30 metres and this rifle will be my dedicated small game rifle. Where I hunt there is rarely a longer shot than that, its fairly dense and game does not spook easily so you can generally get quite close. It may suffer at longer distances when doing target practice at the range, however for hunting I feel everything will be in their respective sweet spots for performance.

You're welcome. My hunting/pest control .22 is a CZ 455 American that I mounted an older Bushnell 4x32 Sharpshooter rimfire scope on. I already had it from years ago, so there was zero expense. It's fine for what that rifle gets used for.

Something to consider....the VX-2 1-4x20 appears to have the parallax set for 150yd. If you're shooting at 10, then the image of the target may not be as sharp as you'd like.

Thanks for the heads up! I received my 455fs from IRunGuns about 2 months ago and was really happy with the service, but now my wife wants one so its good to know its in stock somewhere. I had a 2 month wait ordering it (my fault though, I missed the cutoff deadline by 2 days when ordering and it got bumped up). Hopefully I can find the scope in stock somewhere.

Regarding rings- Do I need the high profile rings to clear the bold handle? Im really hoping on having the scope as low as clearances will allow but I have a feeling I may be buying two sets of rings to figure it out...

If you go with Warne rings, you should be fine with medium. My 455 American has good bolt clearance with those using a VX2 3-9 x 33, if the eyepiece is the same size you're good to go.
