CZ 455 or Anschutz 64?

I have been plinking with my Ruger 10/22 for a couple of years now and am getting rather good, so I figure it's time to take it to the next level and get into bolt actions. I have been looking at the CZ 455 American Varmint and the Anschutz 64 MPR, both in 22lr. Obviously the latter is twice the price of the former, so my question for shooters who have experience with both rifles is whether the price difference is worth it. I don't hunt and don't do competitions (though that may change in the future) so we're really talking about target shooting at 100 yards for now.

Should I go straight for the Rolls Royce or should I make do with the BMW for now?

Thanks

Get an Anschutz. They're amazing guns for the price. Plus you'll never have to feel the need to upgrade, unless you want to go for a 54 or a Fortner.

I have CZ rifles and Anschutz rifles, including the MPR. The MPR is a much better rifle. The trigger is a two stage trigger that is much better than on the CZ, even when modified. The barrel is Anschutz and the stock to action fit is much better than any CZ 455, many of which need to be pillared and bedded to perform to their best. The finish on the German rifle is nicer, too. Get the MPR 64.

You have researched the price . . . your call.
As I have said before, what I have spent on CZ 452's and 455's . . . I should have bought an Anschutz 1712 in the first place!

I have both a cz varmint and an mpr. no comparison as the annie will out shoot the cz every time but It should its twice the price. the cz is bedded and the trigger done the mpr bone stock. if your budget allows buy the mpr.

I can afford the Anschutz 64 MPR, but I don't like to spend where I don't have to. I understand they are two different categories of guns, but I wanted to know if the Anschutz was $700's worth of better than the CZ. Another way to phrase it would be: "will I get twice the enjoyment out of the Anschutz that I would get from the CZ?" Keeping in mind that I am not an expert marksman either.

Thanks

If a quarter inch at 100 meters really matters to you well, go with the Annie, if not the CZ will do the job. IMHO. But Anschutz are beautiful...

If you want to shoot .22LR at 100 yards and try for MOA results, the best choice is the MPR. An unmodified CZ will not do it -- or at least not consistently. A modified CZ, pillared and bedded, with a Lilja barrel, which costs about $800 more, gives you a better chance, but you're talking Anschutz MPR money.

:agree: I have been there & done that.;)

MPR all the way.I have a 455 varmint with pillers and bedding and very light trigger.I also have a match 64 bone stock. The CZ is capable of some decent groups but not all the time.My Annie just plain shoots great all the time and the trigger is incredeable.I have a MPR on its way. With the price of good ammo why waste it in a CZ.

Thanks for all the input. I think I see the sense in going for the top model right away.

Now I need to figure out who sells them in Canada. The only store I have found so far is Nordic Marksman. Are they the only Anschutz dealer in Canada or are there others?

I bought my MPR from Clay at Prophet River way back on the May long weekend sale.It took 2 months but its finally shipped and on its way.If I remember he had one more MPR not spoken for out of the 6 that just came in.BTW I got a H ell of a price on it from that sale.

I also ordered one through Prophet River (mines an ms-r) and was very impressed with the service I received from start to finish. They are definitely the place to buy from when they have a sale on, which has been often lately.

Hey Guys, we are a Canadian Distributor for JG Anschütz, we import directly from the factory. We supply to Clay at Prophet River and no problem to send him more if he wants ;-)

I would get a 452 American or a Silhouette for $600-700 or save up and step up to a 1710/1712. The 64 action might get you a little better accuracy than a 452 but at twice the cost I don't see the value there imo.

Have you handled or fired an Anschutz? it's not just about accuracy, it's also about overall quality, craftsmanship and pride of ownership.
