I just picked up a new .22 CZ 457 'Synthetic' in Canada for an unheard of price - $555.45 after tax!

Closest competitor was $600 plus tax.

So now I have the shorter length, shorter lift 457 action with adjustable trigger. The 455s never appealed to me, especially with their European bass ackward safety and stamped trigger guard.

I really wanted an 'American' model, but they all sold out long go. I was warned that new stock would be higher due to the sagging Canuck buck.

None of the other wood stocks appealed to me and some of them were fuggly with weird European features.

In the event that I want a heavier barrel, who stocks them?

The CZ Mini sets are hard to find in Canada and usually out of stock, however Durham Outdoors has the 22 wmr miniset in stock which will work with the CZ 457 Synthetic, also Wolverine some times have them in stock

I thought so as well that it came with a varmint barrel - ordered one and while the stock is hogged out to take a varmint barrel., the barrel that came with the gun was a standard weight - identical to the barrel on my royal and no where near the barrel on my 455 varmint - yes I am addicted to CZ rifles - btw when I said hogged out - I meant - the standard barrel has about 1/2 free board at the bottom and 1/4 inch on the sides

That jives with what I've read - the 'Varmint' barrel will fit the 'Synthetic' stock.

I want one in .22LR. What do they go for?

I just got one its for sure not a varmint profile.

If you can find one the mini-set varmint barrel kits are around $280 (that was the 455 barrel but AFAIK they are the same fitment and a 455 barrel fits a 457). The kit is the barrel, a couple of allen wrenches and a magazine

Thanks!

I'm looking for a heavier barrel now.

Generally, are you happy with your "Synthetic"? The only wood stocked 457 I liked the look of was the "American" model, all "out of stock".

Can't decide if I want to go with a rail and mounts or just mounts on the dovetails.

The scope has a 40mm objective. How much height do I need.?

Running a rail on both my 455 varmint's. One is a wood stock varmint, the other the Boyds thumbhole laminate varmint

One has a 42mm objective and 1" high Burris Sig XTR rings, the other a 50mm objective and same rings - had to put a 1/2" riser mount on that setup. Was cheaper than getting new rings to replace what I already had.

A 40mm objective 'should' be OK with 1" rings on a dovetail IMHO - no problem on a rail.

The 11mm dovetail mount limits you on ring selection.

To be honest out of all my rifles with irons and wood stocks, the European style is the best at fast iron site aquisition. I use only iron sights and i wish all my wood rifles had it. That being said i think the american style stocks do better for scopes.
