CZ 457 Ammo Recommendations

Yup, picked up a Riton X1 Conquer 6-24x50mm almost a month ago.

I was out shooting with my 455 and my identical Riton; the clarity still impresses me as does the repeatability for dialing various elevations in. Always the same, every time!!

So, Ammo.

Premium ammo is great but can run you $15- $30 per box of 50. This rifle/scope is new to you. You need to get the scope set up, you also need to get used to the rifle. $25/box ammo at this point seems crazy. Not all premium ammo works in every gun either.

Instead, run some "good" ammo for setup/training. Buy a couple of bricks of CCI Standard Velocity or Tack22. Both shoot very well in most rifles; in mine, I find that Tack22 shoots about 1"higher at 100 yards.

Get things running with good ammo then you can start tuning for that extra fine precision by trying different premium ammo.

On the topic... I absolutely recommend Norma Tac22. It is rather affordable, and impressively consistent for the price! A lot better than CCI SV.

Tenda sells 5000 rounds case for something like $560 with free shipping. you cannot go wrong with that, and this much ammo should last you at least a year if you go to a range weekly :)

If you are budget minded, you can always go with Aguila or CCI. I believe Reliable Gun is having a sale on Aguila ammo at the moment until June 30th.

The day I took the photo above I was shooting CCI Std. Yesterday, I was shooting Tac22. I had gotten away from the Tac22 because I shot rather poorly with it on one trip and the CCI shot better. Yesterday, Tac22 groups were smaller and considering the wind, it is now my go-to again.

Aguilla has never shot all that well for me, but your rifle will tell you want it wants.

A word of caution regarding Tac22: They are greasy and as such after about 400 rounds it seems to build up in the chamber and the last two mags required more force to close the bolt. She needs a good cleaning. They also "stink" a bit.

I will be doing a YoDave trigger job (waiting on parts) and will continue my performance testing with these two economical makes.

BTW, I did play with action screw tensions yesterday as well and found that 25"/lb gave me the smallest groups; 20 and 30 were both about 3/8" bigger groups.
