Hello,

I was wondering if anyone has experience with the cz 457 MTR in 17hmr. Looking for accuracy information and if the match chamber actually makes much of a difference with this calibre.
Also if anyone has comparisons to the savage b17 precision.

Had this talk with my friend the other day, I’ve been using 17’s for years, and have always been able to shoot a cloverleaf group at 50 yards with a $250 heavy barrel savage(since upgraded but still only a $450 rifle) and a $300-$400 scope, now I am getting into precision rimfire I am buying a gun 3x that amount and an optic at least double just to do the same thing, kind of funny when you think about it. Iam sure a CZ 17 will perform as good and better than one hopes.
 
my MTR

I have an MTR in .22lr and .17 HMR both 20.5 bbls
, been using the .17 out to 100 & 200 mtrs

I found that it prefers Hornaday 17gr Varmint ex. , pretty limited
as no manufacturer puts out match ammo.

The .22 MTR likes RWS Target Rifle , because I have 4 bricks of it.

The two CZ models with a CZ .22LR match chamber are the CZ 457 MTR and the CZ 457 LRP. The chamber for the 17HMR is the same as it is for other rifles of that caliber.

Whether skwerl's .22 MTR shoots a particular lot of RWS Target Rifle ammo well because he has four bricks of it is not clear. It's worth reiterating what he is saying about 17HMR ammo. No ammo makers produce match ammo in that caliber.

To add to that, 17hmr ammo in all varieities varies in quality. Any brand can have batches with wide ES and inconsistent bullet seating and concentricity.
 
Thanks all for the replies. I used to have a savage model 93 in 17 with heavy barrel, regretted selling it so I ordered the cz 457 MTR in 17. Still haven't recieved it yet but was starting to question if I should have got the savage b17 instead as, like previously said, there is no "match" ammo for the 17.
