Question to all fellow CGN members. Picked up a CZ 457 MTR 17 HMR and was wondering how to mount my scope. Directly to dovetail milled on the reciever or install a picatinny rail? If using a rail, would you opt for the 25 moa rail or straight if shooting out to 200-300 yards? Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated.

What scope? Scope described in every detail please. Bushnell by itself is not the answer. Guessing while trying to help you is not an option.
Leupold make a 1" Ringmount and this may be suitable.
They do not make a 30mm Ringmount.
For a 30mm tube, Nordic has a Picatinny rail available in different MOA.
A scope with a large objective may present clearance issues.

Of course the easy answer would be: Absolutely, buy a 25 MOA from Nordic and that will solve ll you problems.

I have a few scopes available to mount on the CZ. 1" as well as 30mm. I did buy a Nikon prostaff P5 for the gun specifically so I may go with that one. I have 1" talley rings that would work with that scope and is an 11mm dovetail. Was wondering if it would be more accurate to mount a rail on the dovetail of the receiver or just mount the rings directly on the gun. I know DIP makes a solid rail for the CZ's.

Straight rail, I used the CZ version as it was easier to find than the Area 419.

Works perfectly. Not sure why we need to know scope details for a base question? ;)

If you have this now that is the route I would go. Test your accuracy and study the ballistic charts.

If the accuracy at doesn't meet your satisfaction at 100 yards don't bet on it improving at longer ranges.

Once you run out of elevation and determine your point of impact then that will tell you that you need any more MOA's on your base.

I am using a Area 419 rail, It was the only cantilever rail with MOA that I could find locally. Even with shortest 30mm rings I could buy it is way to high unless you are mounting in a chassis. Not sure what they were thinking by making it so high.

The 419 height was a deal breaker for me. I have a DIP 25 MOA extended pic rail coming for my MTR 22LR, about as low profile as you can get with a CZ rail, that I could find. Hopefully 25 MOA was the right choice instead of the 0 MOA. I’ll report back how it goes.

I have posted in the other threads as well; I'm always playing with stuff, and my current set up on my 455 Canadian .17 consists of a Scorpion G2 17 4X12 with a set of fairly high amazon rings. The larger eye piece actually dictated the higher rings as with no rear sight, the 40 mm objective lens cleared the barrel with medium height, but eyepiece interfered with the bolt handle. I went with this scope as the ballistic turret is pre-calibrated for 17gr Hornady loads, which is what I have been shooting exclusively. SFRC had a 16% off sale a few weeks back, these scopes are amazingly clear, and are great value for their money.

My 455 .22 trainer uses a rail adapter with low rings; the extra clearance was needed for the Tasco target scope and the rear tangent sight.
